RE: Brandenburg #2 through the ages...
Well, because of Covid restrictions, I will be spending a Christmas alone. So I will be listening to a lot of music, and thanks to you, sir, I will save these videos to watch and enjoy Brandenburg # 2 through the ages on Christmas day.
I could listen to Maurice, alone, all day long.

RE: What are you listening to?
I got to know them in the fifties when they were pretty hot. I have alive album from 1958 and the line up list was:
Trumpet-Ross Barbour
Trumpet , Mellophone and Bass - Ken Albers
Bass and Trombone - Bob Flanigan
Guitar - Don BarbourThey leaned toward jazz a bit and played and recorded many of the old jazz standards. I was always impressed with the trumpet playing.
They were influenced by the great Stan Kenton's band. -
RE: In search of “my horn.”
Interesting thread. I like dark, and I get that in spades with my Conn Vintage 1 and my Buescher 400. But if I want the flugel sound I simply play my ACB doubler.

RE: Earth, Wind & Fire -- Fan Thread
Oh, yes, a great band with some very good trumpet players over the years, especially Johnny Graham in the 70s and early 80s. Not sure who the current trumpet lead is, but could be Bobby Burns Jr.
I like SEPTEMBER, too. The rhythm is infectious.

Kind words. bit I would have to work harder on any other horn to get that effect, and at my age, I need all the help I can get!
I get you. Hey at 85 I need more than all the help I can get.

@dr-go
Some great playing there, Doc, but I don't think it's because of the horn. The grease may work well on the Martin, but IMHO I bet you can get that greasy thing on most any horn you play. -
RE: Franz Streitwieser and the “plus one” phenomenon
Very interesting, Steve. Thanks,

@rowuk
Though I am sure that they are great players, if in good condition, I would still never pay inflated prices to own a Martin. -
RE: Medical Aspects and Risks of Playing the Trumpet
I have Glaucoma but had it long before I resumed trumpet playing 6 years ago. Still I am very concerned that playing the horn could possibly cause some form of eye damage. The results of this study will be very interesting.

Definitely different. You know, this is the first time I ever heard him swing. And man, he can do it.

Really nice, Steve!!
I don't do so well on my Flugel, Steve, but you really nailed it in the video. Great sound, my friend.

@kehaulani
Hi, kehaulani, If you view the video in full screen you can see the name of the arranger: Paul Murtha at the very top of the screen. -
RE: Things to Come
Yeah, Doc, and I'd love to see and hear them all but the admission price...well...
