Oh, boy, even 2nd trumpet would have been a killer for me.

I've done some playing with a brass quintet. Unfortunately it broke up due to Covid. If we start up again I will suggest adding a percussionist. Sounds interesting.The only drawback is the gig money becomes a 6-way split…lol
Yeah, forgot about that. :

RE: I'm back... Now with 100% full dentures and a long road of recovery
Great to see and hear that you are alive and kicking, Butch. When I made my comeback in 2016 after a 50 year hiatus there was one big difference, I was now, at age 79, sporting a full upper denture and a partial lower denture. It was like learning to play all over again, but it can be done. You have the determination and the love for music that is needed so I have no doubts whatever that you will be playing well long before you think.

Great work Wayne Mathisen, and all the other Waynes that worked with you in playing one of my favorite marches.
And I might add, a very ambitious project.George

RE: Artist on BOARD
It's definitely on you.
You are probably like me in that you have talent and abilities that allow you to do certain things in your life that make you happy, and the satisfaction you get from this is more important than money. -
RE: More Clark Terry
Clark Terry is one of my trumpet heroes, and is probably one of the best Flugel players in the world. And nobody make it look easier.
He has an hour long video Course on Trumpet Playing on youtube which was great for comeback players like me. His section on buzzing with or without a mouthpiece, especially without is absolutely amazing.
I am using an ACB TA1 mouthpiece, developed by Trent Austin, a friend of Clark's, and it is mostly based on the mp Clark used through out most of his career, and it is a great worker for me. -
RE: Artist on BOARD
I don't know what your prices are, Wayne, but work similar to your caliber in this area were getting anywhere from $1,000 to $3000 and up for large pieces back in 1998. I have no idea what they are fetching today. If I was a good as you I would be charging whatever the market can bear.
This advice is coming from a guy who gave away all but one of his dozen or so watercolors... -
RE: If you are 13...THIS is your standard!
This is why I love Wynton Marsalis. Not too many pros would use their band as a showcase for young talent. That was a pretty proud look on Wynton's face, too, when the camera cut to him during the kid's trombone solo.

RE: What are you listening to?
@dr-go
Nice band, Doc. Looks to be about the same size, with a similar mix of ages as the band I play with.
I envy you, though, because we are still only practicing, not entertaining.
I miss an audience, especially when they are dancing. I did so much of that kind of entertaining during the 50s and 60s.

RE: Lip pain solution?
@sessionaire
So sorry to hear of your plight, Doug. I am in my eighties and did lose the ability to play for about 3 weeks after a case of overuse and I thought I was through, but it was not as serious as your situation and within a month I was playing again. But I don't push my luck anymore and listen when my chops are telling me to back off.I do hope you find an answer. I would go bonkers if I couldn't play my horns.

RE: Band Re-start for Fall
I love the sound you are getting on your Getzen Flugel, Doc. But I must admonish you on one thing...
YOUR POSTURE...not good, Doc... -
RE: Here's a nice little daily warmup...
Oh, yeah, I've seen that before. Really something.
I love anything The Canadian Brass does.

Playing the trumpet upside-down, oh, boy. Morrison really likes to push the envelope.

RE: Favorite Music
Oh, wow, so neat.
Anyone know what trumpet Louis, and the other two high range trumpeters playing the high range used ? They seemed to be well suited to the high stuff.
