    • RE: 3rd Valve for Olds Recording Trumpet?

      @flugelgirl said in 3rd Valve for Olds Recording Trumpet?:

      @Dr-GO looks like he’s looking for a 3rd valve slide, not a piston. Might be difficult to come by, though Allied might carry a compatible part. Only a shop with an account number can order from Allied, so check to see if it’s possible to do that.

      Oops.. my dyslexia is kicking in. That slide does have a screw trigger mechanism so would not be as easy as a fix as sure.

      First of all, if ordering that third valve, make sure you get it for the LA (not Fulerton) production Recordings. I own both and it is very clear the valves and casings are very different and changed over the production years.

      Look as if the tracks are listing around car #3. Any chance the painting can be repainted to fix the problem with the tracks... This will make me feel much better... as I have a one track mind.

      Here is a little something I did. Just finished today, DrGo, with your inspiration. Maybe I fixed some things, added some, took away others?
      Dale, forgive me for straying a little from Railroad enthusiast's exactness of the engine.i sort of created my own. Some of you may recognize the location of this?DAB098AB-E2C3-43D7-B0DD-B5A3C6DB8B7A.jpeg

      Nice work! Less vertigo when riding that third car!

      @GeorgeB said in I gave up on "Double High C in . . ":

      The only thing I know for sure as far as my playing goes is that my on- the -staff-play suffered when I spent too much time doing difficult high range exercises.

      So I had to ask myself what is the point ? On a good day I can play a clean D above high C, and so far in the band I play in I have never had to play anything higher than a Bd.

      Agreed. The goal is to play clean, at any range in our arsenal.

      I become a very dark and mean person when I’m not playing enough - one of the many reasons I’ve never stopped. I like who I am a whole lot better when I’m playing, and so does everyone else!

      Especially your husband if you are married...☺

      Not to mention avoiding all those psychiatry co-pays!

      My ear can not detect the difference. A lot depends on the player's styling.

      As long as one doesn't get "un-hinged" about it. Napkins record the word in the moment and should not be relied upon as documenting history.

      The Maggio is essentially the same method us but with more focus on the upper muscles. Less fatigue, more stamina.

      When it comes right down to it... just writing the note on a cocktail napkin gets the message across. Even quicker if that napkin was caressing a gin and tonic!

      @Dr-GO, in contemporary German brass-lingo we called a double high C a "C5," (B4 concert pitch) and the pedal C a "C1."

      I have trouble looking at anything other than what I am hearing...That 1 step offset from what I am hearing just makes me crazy.

      I have this problem with playing a C trumpet. Is it just me or does anyone else have this trumpet dyslexia where I just cannot play a C trumpet for the life of me as the fingerings are just not matching with what my ears wants to hear.

      That would apply pnly if you are playing trumpet and piano.

      Like Joey DeFrancisco. Man for a person known as an organist, he plays a mean trumpet. I am getting more and more into his trumpet playing! He has a lot of Miles in his style!

      That's what most people would call Middle D, or D in the staff.

      Low D = D below the staff
      Middle D = D in the staff
      High D = D above the staff (or D above High C)

      Agreed. Once again, look to the relativity as to what lies ABOVE the staff.

      It has always been my theory that the Germans lost two world wars in part because they put their verbs at the end of their sentences. By the time it was for them to take action... it was too late!

      I know you meant this as humorous, but I have a wife, two children and extended family members who are German and I don't think this is funny. I could be hypersenseive. But, FWIW.

      No I actually think there is partial truth to this use of verbs. A delay in taking critical action is concerning. Albeit the war was lost due to many other reasons of which military strategy is the primary reason. So I edited the original to be more contextually factual.

      But I go still nuts when the german say, the play a C3 and for me (catalan) that's a C5

      No offense intended, but I've answered this ad naseum. Be that as it may . .

      I relate notes to the lowest playable note and then octaves of it. It follows this logical pattern:

      then pray that anything comes out.

      As long as it's not a hernia... at which point, the musician will need to schedule an appointment with me.

      Isn't it just simpler to understand above the last note touching the staff is a high... and the next octave above that is double high... and so on.
