I've never understood folks that think you can play without air. If one could, there would be no need for breathing exercises. Now I just need to buy an artificial electric drill tongue! Might be inefficient with all the new equipment I have to learn to use.

You need more than air... you need vibrations as well... good.... good... good... good vibrations.

And for the musicians' sake, rubbing elbows with audience members, even though you may have taken all precautions on stage, then puts you at greater risk off-stage. Point is that, even though you may take precautions on stage, as soon as you socialise with others at the venue, all bets are off.

      Sadly, this is so true.

Doesn't Fauci "serve at the pleasure of the President"?

No, he does what is right...

What's that supposed to mean? Do you mean that he can't be fired by the President?

So Kahaulani, I believed I answered the second part of your question to ROWUK regarding who and who not a President can fire (I said a President not The President as that commentary is based on Political Science, not Politics).

For the first question: What's that suppose to mean by "No, he does what is right... I believe I may share with ROWUK that Dr. Fauci, a scientist, is guided by the science, not politics [i.e. trying to make a decision in saving the economy for political gain over diminishing loss of life for optimal medical outcomes]. As it is the science behind Fauci's course of decision making that impacts on health. If the decision is made based on politics then the opposite may be the fate for We the People.

So before I am challenged on this as being a political comment... I am only stating current fact that the science has been ignored, the the US is now at 5 million infected. So our governments, State or Federal, has been ineffectual in the United States of America to protect We the People.

So how does all this impact on "Playing risks in Covid-time"? Whether the trumpet does or does not significantly produce infectious particulates, I doubt this will impact significantly on spreading Covid over the higher risk of an audience that dances on large dance floors to musicians that may be social distancing, or with the patrons that sit at the bar shoulder and shoulder to drink or eat, obviously without the ability to wear a face mask, whether they believe in doing so or not. No politics here, just human behavior. Right?

And elected officials cannot be fired by the President. So if the VP does something to totally violate the President's intent, the President cannot remove his VP.

But isn't the NIH a government agency under the Executive? Not quibbling or arguing, just want clarification.

From a CNN New Feed: Under federal law, Trump doesn't have the power to directly fire Fauci, a career civil servant, and remove him from government. And while Trump could try ordering his political appointees to dismiss the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Fauci could appeal -- a time-consuming process.

No. Fauci cannot be fired by the President. He is a division head under the director of the NIH. The President can choose to kick him off the task force though.

    • RE: Musicians' Glasses

My optometrist has created lenses that my left eye is corrected to see close distances, my right far distances. I believe it is called monocular vision contact lenses. This works VERY WELL if I skew my stand to rotate at 45 degrees NW relative to my stance. My left eye sees the left written notes and my right the further right written notes and it is amazing that there is no blur in the transition across the page in so doing.

...Fact is, if everyone simply practices good hygiene, distancing and wears a mask whenever possible, we could be well on our way to recovery...

And at the present time, this is the ONLY intervention we have at this time to prevent the spread. Sadly, there are many here in the USA that when not mandated by Government, does not follow this advice. That is why the US has had such an augmented rise in the past month.

"The government", in this case, are the highly experienced, infectious disease medical experts the President, himself, selected.

I don't think the President selected Fauci. I believe he was already in the position as the Director of the National Science Foundation Allergy and Infections Disease Division. The President can only elect to listen or not to listen to Dr. Fauci's advice.

Got a call from the coroner that a family was out shopping and came home to find there mother dead in the chicken coop with chickens running all over her body. Coroner said it sounded like natural causes and I replied, not so sure of that as to me it sounded like fowl play.

Returning to the trumpet after a 65 year layoff. Played the trumpet when Ike was in the White House. For me, it's not like riding a bike. After one month I can play a mean Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

After 65 years for me I play Tinkle Tinkle which explains my current relationship with my urologist. Welcome to TB were we say it as it is.

      @GeorgeB

I haven't been active on this forum as much as I used to... I just read through this posting and hope and pray that you'll be okay and can get back into playing. There is no such thing as "age catching up". I always joke around with age numbers to take away any worry. If you are 83, then always think that you are 38 and you can still do everything you did at 38! On the other hand, I am 59, so in that case you just add the two numbers... 5+9=14. Okay, so I could be a 14 year old kid, playing trumpet in middle school!

I hope everyone is doing well during this crazy COVID-19 stuff. I haven't been driving my school bus since this all happened, back in March! Everything is shutdown. The Shriners Band is shutdown, the annual Oktoberfest is already canceled, etc...

George, I just wish you the best and hope you can regain your health!

      Stay safe, everyone!

Butch... sounds like particularly tough times for you as well. May you be well for sure!

What is scary for me as I am sending more and more patients in for Covid testing. Until a couple weeks ago about 3 a week, in the past couple weeks that has increased to 3 a day. I can really feel the rise in Ohio daily cases. My wife is a nurse at our largest hospital and they went from one dedicated Covid floor two weeks ago to now 3 floors two weeks ago. She has 3x been pulled from her MedSurg floor to float to the Covid floors. Fortunately there are no plenty of equipment for her to wear, but her anxiety level is way up lately.
