New Toy (not a trumpet)
I bought myself a new toy a few weeks ago. It was warm enough today to put the top down for the first time.

Sorry to hear that! Hope you have a full, speedy recovery!

RE: Funny story that's sort of trumpet related...
I sat next to John Williams in a trumpet section years ago. No, not that John Williams…lol

Sousa Trumpet and Drum Manual
Anyone ever seen one of these? I think they’ve been out of print for many years, but there’s some cool stuff in it. Basic instruction on playing the instruments, field trumpet (bugle) and drum parts for 80+ calls, and even a few marches with multiple bugle parts.

Sorry. I used to love cars. Now I hate cars. They are a necessary evil, but I just want ones that start and run reliably and drive comfortably.
How about motorcycles? I like them, too…

RE: Trumpet Board Remote Performance
I’m currently involved in recording a virtual orchestral performance of Christmas music (some of it quite complicated) that will be broadcast locally in December. Playing along with a click track/backing track in headphones is a bit tricky, especially when there are holds and ritards in the piece. You have to listen to it and play along numerous times to be able to anticipate what’s happening. We’re doing multiple takes of the pieces, so the recording folks can hopefully piece together an acceptable product.

The Honda in the foreground is the same model I took my motorcycle license test with, although it was not mine. If I am remembering correctly it’s a CB450, my friend let me borrow it.
It fools a lot of people because it has a 1966 Honda CB450 tank on it. It’s actually a 1969 CL350, and used to look like this…

RE: Trumpet Board Remote Performance
I finished the last socially distanced recording session (that I mentioned earlier) tonight. Things were pretty tight on the last run-throughs and we got to go home a little early. It was about a 50 piece orchestra, and I’m surprised everything went as well as it did, especially on one piece that booked at 180 bpm - concentrate on the click track in the headphones and the chart, and don’t pay attention to anything else that’s going on. I’m anxious to hear the finished product.

WWII plastic bugle
This is a fairly rare Army bugle (field trumpet) that was manufactured by the Frank Aman Corporation from a plastic material called tenite, produced by the Eastman Corporation of Tennessee. Tenite was used as a brass saving measure in the later part of the war. It’s missing the plastic mouthpiece, but I have an old metal bugle mouthpiece that fits it. Old tenite has an unpleasant odor, so I won’t be playing this one much…lol

Looks like a cornet on the trumpet player sign, though…lol

RE: Books about Trumpets
Yes, I have a rotary valve cornet, and there are return springs. Not on the valves themselves, but springs are involved in returning the valve to the straight through position. I was just responding to the bad joke Dr. Go was making a few posts ago.

Yeah, my horns are always on display on stands in the music room. But I now have a satin cover that just slips over the two silver horns . Hey, they are pretty and I like to look at them...
What brand of silver polish are you using ?
Wright’s liquid silver polish. This trumpet is 44 years old, and I’ve played (and polished) it for the 40 or so years I’ve owned it. No silver loss from polishing, but a little wear where I’ve held it.

After my retirement 20 years ago my 6 figure income dropped to 5 figures on the low side. My reportable income hasn't changed much these past 20 years. But I get by.
GeorgeSo far (2+ years) we’re living the good life on Social Security. House, cars, etc. are paid for and we haven’t touched any of our retirement accounts.
