@Seth-of-Lagos Saw E.C "attempt" to play Layla in Melbourne, Australia in 1975. Perhaps not at his physical best that night, but at least I got to see him. As a matter of interest, who was the dude giving percussionists a bad name?He at least provided light entertainment for the rest of the band. Never the less, what a line up.

@Niner Niner, great post, many thanks. This type of detailed, historical info is most important for those of us interested in the vintage side of things. The industries heritage should not be lost through either neglect or ignorance.

RE: Andrea Motis, Moanin
@Shifty Check out the rest of the Sant Andreau performances. It's a humbling experiance!

RE: King Liberty
@Niner Nice post. I have amongst other things, a 2B from 1936, in almost pristine condition. Information on and "pretty pictures" of vintage horns is from my perspective most important. From a purely historical perspective, once this info is lost, it is just that, lost, and future trumpet players will not benefit from knowing about a once great American brass instrument manufacturing tradition.
Posts like this can and must, exist along side more esoteric musings. The trumpet community is a "broad church", and forums such as this and TH, should be well able to embrace every bodies particular interests and opinions. Just my 2 bobs worth.

RE: How about a forum for Curio and Relic horns?
@Niner I would fully support a forum that looked at the "vintage" side of life. Not only looking at who has what, but serving as a point of reference for people like myself, wanting detailed info on specific instruments. There is a wealth of knowledge in our community, that could be more fully utilized.

RE: So how did you start out to learn the trumpet?
@Rapier232 Our parallels are so similar, albeit I was slightly older than 40. Someone gave me the loan of a trumpet, never having touched one previously!! Set about teaching myself to both play and read. Financial priorities meant that a teacher was out of the question, so it was a long, slow and painful process, however I am now in 2 community bands, (and president of one).
The downside is that as I progress I inevitably compare myself with other, more accomplished players. It can be frustrating, but ultimately rewarding,so they say!

RE: Chet on Commitee?
@administrator To paraphrase the old nursery rhyme, ...when he was good he was very good, when he was bad he was horrid!
Perhaps unfairly, my perceptions of his playing are influenced by his seeming disregard for those people who loved/cared for him. That said, I have a significant number of his recordings and return to them in the hope my feelings change.
However, the less said about his singing the better.

RE: Researching old instruments
@Kehaulani Ah well, sounds like a case of you say tomato and I say tomarto. In the end it hardly matters. I enjoy the 3 I have.

RE: Researching old instruments
@Kehaulani I asked this same question of a German friend of ours ,who is prone to being pedantic on matters of language.
Her view was that it should be pronounced phonetically...booscher. Then again, there may be regional variations.

Conn 40,41 and 48B's
In an idle moment, I was wondering what, if any, differences existed between the playing characteristics of the various "Vocabell" models. ConnLoyalist makes individual observations, but not direct comparisons. Thoughts, comments and observations would be appreciated.

RE: Kelly mouthpieces (plastic, acrylic, lexan, whatever...)
@ButchA
By chance, I used a Kelly 5C this morning for the out-doors portion of our ANZAC Day Dawn Service. 6 A.M start. The morning was cold enough to warrant using the Kelly, but not as cold as it must get in parts of "The States".
J.Jericho,s comments are a perfect summation of the M.P's attributes. Give one of them a go, I think you will be both pleased and surprised.

RE: Some good...."non-trumpeting" music :)
@J-Jericho Set your controls for the heart of the sun, Careful with that axe eugene, saucer full of secrets, the list goes on. But lets not forget Meddle, Wish you were here, Animals etc. Pink Floyd, one of the defining bands of my youth..

RE: Some good...."non-trumpeting" music :)
@ButchA Yes, one of the greatest solo's ever. It just gets better with repeated listening.

RE: Rock, Pop, Classic 70's "Horn Bands" from back in the day?
@ButchA Nice version, but I do prefer the original. Eric Clapton may have been god, but Steve Winwood was King.
