@Rapier232 Man, this replicates my personal experience to T. Came to the horn relatively late in life, bit the bullet and bought a trumpet and Tune a Day book and persevered. I could neither justify or afford the cost of lessons, so did it the hard, very hard way. They say it is character building! That said, the sense of personal achievement in doing it myself and then joining 2 Community Bands, is something I will always carry with me. Would I recommend it? Absolutely not. Then again, the realisation you have achieved something personally significant cannot be replaced.

RE: Kelly mouthpieces (plastic, acrylic, lexan, whatever...)
@ButchA
By chance, I used a Kelly 5C this morning for the out-doors portion of our ANZAC Day Dawn Service. 6 A.M start. The morning was cold enough to warrant using the Kelly, but not as cold as it must get in parts of "The States".
J.Jericho,s comments are a perfect summation of the M.P's attributes. Give one of them a go, I think you will be both pleased and surprised.

RE: Company Timelines (Besson, Diston-Keefer, Frank Holton, Vincent Bach)
@OldSchoolEuph A quick vote of thanks to OldSchoolEuph for posting this info and to all those members who have offer informed thoughts and commentary.
It's this type of posting that drew me TH and the late lamented TM in the first instance. I would not deny that there is room for this type of information and social intercourse, however I would suggest that the more learned material that is posted, the greater the possibility for the site to attract a wider membership base.Just my thoughts, there I've said it.
Regards Tom

RE: Rock, Pop, Classic 70's "Horn Bands" from back in the day?
@ButchA Nice version, but I do prefer the original. Eric Clapton may have been god, but Steve Winwood was King.

RE: Best value instruments: CarolBrass
@administrator Spot on. My 7660L is everything I could have hoped for (and more). By any measure they are exceptional value for money.

RE: Guilty Pleasure Listening
@administrator In my darker moments I repeatedly go to March to the Scaffold and Mars-Bringer of war, but increasingly I am listening to people like Amii Stewart-Knock on Wood, Eruption- I can't stand the rain (who mentioned eye candy?), Earth Wind and Fire and almost anything from the Motown/Stax labels, Temptations-Pappa was a Rolling Stone,Joan Osbourne-What becomes of the broken hearted and Wilson Pickett Sam and Dave Otis Redding et al.

RE: Some good...."non-trumpeting" music :)
@ButchA Yes, one of the greatest solo's ever. It just gets better with repeated listening.
