Been following Leonid and Friends for a couple of years now. Whether it's their existing material or "Speck of dust", they just impress mightily. If only they could/would tour "Down under".

Holton ST 555S
Looking for any objective info on the Holton ST 555S. Been to the Holton Trumpet model pdf, but no info there.
Is it a derivative of the ST 55O and therefore a "student" horn? I would appreciate any thoughts, comments etc on said horn.

RE: Why are so many threads just getting locked down?
@georgeb Forums are what people choose to make them. With the demise of TM, TB is as much a social interaction site as an information source. If I have a need for specific and hopefully objective information (a sometimes impossible dream), I will more than likely use TH. A personal choice.
As to opinionated know-it-alls, they are not to be found exclusively on TH.Regards Chelpres

RE: Best value instruments: CarolBrass
@administrator Spot on. My 7660L is everything I could have hoped for (and more). By any measure they are exceptional value for money.

RE: Mid 20's Holton mouthpieces
@tptguy Received wisdom is that the Holton Heim 2 M.P would be suitable. I bought one for just that purpose, for use in my 1927 New Revelation. My friend has a similar period Llewellen and the Heim came as standard.
FWIT'sW, I have found the best fit is with a period VEGA M.P. However first find your VEGA!
I would imagine a skilled tech would be able to determine M.P receiver dimensions and machine down a contemporary M.P to match. I had this done, but used the VEGA as a template.
I would imagine some of the more enlightened Holton specialists in vintage land will be able to expand on all this. -
RE: Played high school trumpet
@dr-go Damn, if only my school had had a band.

RE: Taiwanese Trumpets
@tjcombo Couldn't agree more on your opinion of the Legend Heavy weight. As they say in the classics, it's a nut buster. On a value for money basis, they, the Carol Brass, cannot be beaten.

RE: R.I.P. Pauly Cohen
@j-jericho I hadn't heard of Pauly Cohen until now, tyrany of distance and that sort of thing, but just listened to him playing that most glorious of jazz standards, What's New, with the Count Basie Orchestra. Just sublime, what a tone. That,s one performance to return to time and again.

RE: Just Purchased a Conn 20A.
@adc Connloyalist has some interesting info on the evolution of the 20A cornet, suggesting it was a continuation of the Pan American model, albeit under the Conn brand. I have a Pan American cornet, serial number 225xxx dating manufacture to 1951. My question is, how does this differ, if at all, from the later iterations of the original Pan American model marketed under the Conn name?

RE: Amati-Kraslice - the ones we love to hate?
@gloucestre Hi Gloucestre, I,m guessing your Tempo is the one recently listed on our (Australian), Gumtree site. I did look at this one and asked the vendor for some details. She was able to ind "made in Czecho" I think on the MP receiver. The opportunity arose for me to put my money elsewhere, so I passed on this one. Glad it found a good home. Regards Tom

RE: Guilty Pleasure Listening
@administrator In my darker moments I repeatedly go to March to the Scaffold and Mars-Bringer of war, but increasingly I am listening to people like Amii Stewart-Knock on Wood, Eruption- I can't stand the rain (who mentioned eye candy?), Earth Wind and Fire and almost anything from the Motown/Stax labels, Temptations-Pappa was a Rolling Stone,Joan Osbourne-What becomes of the broken hearted and Wilson Pickett Sam and Dave Otis Redding et al.
