@Newell-Post there are attachments that can be installed. Like a dog whistle. No one but your dog will hear it, but it will produce some monster high notes.

And the sound is even better. Not sure if anyone has ever played a Power Bore, but it has laser sharp accuracy. It was the PERFECT horn for 2nd Trumpet big band charts where the harmonies are so tight between the lead and 3rd part. You did not have to rely on your ear with this horn, you just aim the valves on the right note, and bull's eye, there it was.

The horn projects like no other traditional horn and I used it a lot as a lead horn as well until I got my Harrelson.

Not much humor to be found in some aspects of Caananite culture, to be sure. The concept of trumpets playing a part in effecting conquest over evil can be considered a positive thing, can it not?

Oh, yes, indeed.
I was, of course, spinning a little humor on the fact that those walls and towers depicted in the background are almost definitely supposed to be the walls of Jericho....no harm intended, J.J.
But the words added to that classic etching were unbelievably clever, for us blowers. And that is our goal, to at least take the paint off the walls, if not take them down.

Today, the exercises introduced dotted half notes so I figured the quarter rests were a good opportunity to refill.

Breathing during the rests is a given. Go for it every chance you get, unless you really don’t need to and can make it through to another opportune spot.

Very much so, but as a rule of thumb, try to fit breaths in when they will be least interruptive to the intent of the music. Make the breaths seamless, invisible. Additionally, there may be several choices involved where a breath is needed, decide on the best case of the lot. For example, never take a breath in a slurred legato run or sustained hold.
I need to be better at it myself, but at least I have a notion of what it should be.......
