It has been said that some dogs can understand up to 250 words. I’ve had several employees who could understand at least that many……..combined, though.

RE: Artist on BOARD
I seem to be in a productive stage this year. I have a clear idea of what I want to paint. This is not always a given, by the way. Just glad the juices are flowing. This one was from a photo I took, from the driver's seat of my Uncle's Buick. The passengers were quite panicked, but I assigned my uncle to hold the wheel so we were fine. The second picture is the photo I took those many years ago ( with a film camera, by the way). Then I decided to recreate it in a winter setting. Here are the pictures

RE: How about a "Random Meaningless Image...let's see them string"?
Flame is not photoshopped, by the way. He lives in my neighborhood, but I don’t know where the bat cave is……….
No headlights
No tail lights
No roof
No seatbelts
No rear view or side view mirrors
He has a special relationship with commissioner Gordon -
RE: Artist on BOARD

RE: Artist on BOARD
Here is my most recent one. This is ten minutes from my home in NJ.
That’s right, NJ. The Church was started in 1752. In my area there was a very heavy Dutch influence. Anyway, this is Neshanic ( Dutch Reformed ) Church and it has been ver well maintained over the years. The way I have painted it depicts our present time, FYI. -
RE: Did anyone made a copy of "The Circle of Breath"
@tjcombo I believe it helps, tj.
I think I might be subconsciously doing something along those lines and the closer I get to doing it right the better it feels. -

Did you google "jens lindemann mouthpiece rant" ?
Just a Google of "lindemann mouthpieces" brings up the text on several websites, plus videos of Jens discussing the same issues.
You may be shifty, but somehow I feel I can trust you.

RE: Tom Green
One of the best looking trumpets ever!!!
And the sound is even better. Not sure if anyone has ever played a Power Bore, but it has laser sharp accuracy. It was the PERFECT horn for 2nd Trumpet big band charts where the harmonies are so tight between the lead and 3rd part. You did not have to rely on your ear with this horn, you just aim the valves on the right note, and bull's eye, there it was.
The horn projects like no other traditional horn and I used it a lot as a lead horn as well until I got my Harrelson.
Well, now that you don’t need it any longer..............

RE: need perfect pitch to play trombone ?
@Tobylou8 wow. That's you?
I have fairly decent relative pitch, and my biggest pet peeve was singing in a choir doing a capella. Me singing tenor.
The tenor section would stick to my pitch. We were continually chastised for being sharp. I would get so angry because the other sections would drop a half tone after about a couple of measures into the piece. Every time.
So, what, we had to purposely sing flat to match their wrong notes? I guess so. Apparently. I did not enjoy singing a capella with this group. It was near torture. -
RE: A little humour
@SSmith1226 hey! Did anyone hear about the new flute some company is selling now that guarantees it will stay in tune with other flutes?
Me neither.

RE: How many measures on a tank of air?
@Doodlin said in How many measures on a tank of air?:
As my beginner book progresses, the training wheels are just about off. That means the "breath marks" are no longer indicated. Is it more of a phrasing thing?
Very much so, but as a rule of thumb, try to fit breaths in when they will be least interruptive to the intent of the music. Make the breaths seamless, invisible. Additionally, there may be several choices involved where a breath is needed, decide on the best case of the lot. For example, never take a breath in a slurred legato run or sustained hold.
I need to be better at it myself, but at least I have a notion of what it should be....... -
RE: Famous Signature Songs
If one player stands out to me that has virtually one and only one signature song, then it seems to me Chuck Mangione's “Feels So Good” fits that like almost no other. And from the general public's perspective I think you would be hard pressed to find one out of a hundred who could name any other songs he ever did!

@flugelgirl
This is one case where I would have preferred making it into a wall hanging. -
RE: Music. What is It?
Music is when a child says, "I hear music"
We, on the other hand are so removed from the simplistic
Innocence of a child that we can’t even figure out what it is any longer.
Try to forget everything the world tries to tell us and let music be what you want it to be. Let everyone else fight and bicker about it. -

It's good to see you over here now, Peter. We still recognize you... and your "weight" loss. Your hints helped, though.
We're a smart bunch of fellers here
And girls, too. Sorry about that slip.

RE: How do you feel about vibrato?
A neighbor of mine in Boise Idaho used to be in a Mariachi band. ( He is in his 80s ) I asked him if he wanted to play as we stood chatting outside. Sí, como no? He said.
As soon as he made a note come out- it was vibrato. Every note, every time....that's how Mariachi bands roll. Very rapid vibrato. Not for everyone. I silently got a kick out of it but didn’t want him to stop. He hadn’t played for 15 yrs, too. Sadly he is now in the Veteran's home and doesn’t remember me any more. -
RE: R.I.P. Sammy Nestico
That is very sad to hear. Our community band did several of his arrangements, as our director knew him personally. We even did one or more that had never been played by anyone else publicly.

Great work Wayne Mathisen, and all the other Waynes that worked with you in playing one of my favorite marches.
And I might add, a very ambitious project.George
Thanks, George. You can only imagine. What an unruly bunch they were. It was all I could do to keep them under control!
