I don't think I was hacked. It appears that I will need to turn on email confirmation for new users.

Pretty sure there are horns with better intonation than others.
Otherwise we would all be playing Bundy's.
      True?

      No, Mendini by Cecilio!!!

      This builds character!

It's a real Bach, as far as I can tell from the one photo you posted. If you would like to post more, we can discern it more clearly. Everything seems to check out to me.

This is an interesting horn. I'll post a screenshot of the ad in case it disappears.

    • RE: Good trumpet upgrades?

So, I've played a number of the Cannonball trumpets and have been impressed. I'm not a fan of the stone series, but the other, more classical oriented trumpets were pretty good. I believe they are made by B&S and then modified by Cannonball in Salt Lake City.

All good ideas. I won't buy before I play.

    • Which trumpet to buy?

Your administrator is looking to get back into trumpet playing. From the following choices, assuming I can afford whatever I purchase, which do you recommend?

-- Brand new Blackburn (I visit the shop and make my order there)
-- Brand new Yamaha artist series (I buy from local music shop)
-- Brand new Bach 190 (I buy from local music shop)
-- Used Blackburn (hopefully with trial period, but no guarantee)
-- Used Yamaha artist series (lightly used)
-- Used Bach 190 (lightly used)

I'm looking for a general do-it-all horn and I am absolutely not interested in fussing with it. Just need something that is easy to play, especially for somebody with limited time on their hands. If you recommend another brand, please let me know.

    • How do I begin to learn "jazz trumpet?"

I am posting this question as a sticky for two reasons:

      1. As a classical musician with a degree in trumpet performance, I have always envied the "jazz" trumpeters who could spin a solo like nobody's business.
      2. Somebody is going to search "how to learn jazz trumpet" on google and land on this page.

This thread is for beginners of jazz trumpet who have a decent foundation in the technique of the instrument and musicianship.

@dr-go said in What are you listening to?:

A medical student I was teaching just found were he matched for residency training. He was so excited but saddened that he would be leaving the Dayton area he wanted to share a memory with me from a few years back

After he finished a course I was teaching on lipid metabolism during his first year of medical school, at the end of a semester. he wanted to get back to focusing less on medicine and more on music. So he invited me over to his home and we recorded an iTunes song performed by his sister, with him putting down drum, guitar and keyboard tracks, and me on Flugelhorn.

After that session, he wanted to do a version of "Fly Me to the Moon", no music in front of us and here is what we did, unrehearsed and in one take:
      Youtube Video

I really enjoy your playing, Dr. What is that Flugelhorn you are on? I know your trumpet is a Harrelson, I do remember that.

@barliman2001 said in Pneumonia - how long to pause?:

Update: Our local hospital released me on 15 March, saying that I would only need to finish the course of antibiotics they would give me - but they only gave me one additional day. Since then, the pneumonia slowly came back, until yesterday, when I had to call the ambulance again and they delivered me not to the same hospital (full of Covid), but another one some 20 miles away. They put me into a single room due to my sleep apnea which means that in between IV antibiotics, I can practice to my heart's content...

Best wishes from the TB community. Hope you get well soon! At least you have a trumpet with you 🙂

I think those Getzen trumpets are a very good value. You usually can't go wrong with them, although I have played a few I did not like.
