    • Interesting horn with nice engravings

Anybody know what this is? The engraving is a very nice touch.

    • Earth, Wind & Fire -- Fan Thread

I recently "discovered" Earth, Wind & Fire. I mean, I got my degree in trumpet performance, so I was aware of them, but never really listened to their music.

Now I'm addicted. It's incredible stuff. My favorite songs:

      September
      Let's Groove
I'll Write a Song for You
      Beijo (Interlude)

    • RE: Opinions of General Quality of Martin Trumpets

They are all high quality, but I have found them to be very unique trumpets. They likely won't blend well with other horns at all. That being said, who cares, if you like how it plays and your band director doesn't complain...you're not principal of NYPO, I'm assuming? They hold their value well, being sort of "cult classics" at this point. Although, I would say the large bore Committee models are overvalued, they will never drop much below $2k at any point.

Besson enharmonic trumpet from a local dealers private collection.
      Apparently quite rare.
Unfortunately he has no mouthpiece that adequately fits

      I love this horn.

      @bigdub
I participated in a very nice art show over this past weekend. There were 28 other very diverse and very good artists there in addition to me.
I was able to sell one original and one print and also set up a commission with a couple who wanted something more specific.
Two of the artists scolded me for not having high enough prices.
One had a piece ( fairly large ) for……..are you sitting down?
      $15,000!
I actually asked her if she sells any at such a price, and she said, yes, she does!
I guess I am not that greedy. I would show you her painting, but I don’t have permission to do so and it would be a bit unethical, too.

I don't think it's greedy to get paid what you're worth. If your paintings can fetch that, then that is the market value. I charge a certain amount for my time and if people don't want to pay, that's their choice.

@kehaulani said in Bruno Tilz mouthpieces:

I believe Tilz are a popular and quality European mouthpiece, not only for modern trumpets but for historical horns and other trumpet-like horns. Till Bonner used to play one.

This is my understanding. Popular with rotary trumpet players.

    • RE: Lip pain solution?

@sessionaire said in Lip pain solution?:

Greetings all, I am a damaged (ex ? ) trumpeter...I had been playing, trumpet and Fluegel regularly, mostly in "church rock bands" for over 30 years...
long story short, lip strain?/overuse? (orbicularis Oris) injury whilst playing (felt it happen) 12 years ago. End of lips both sides. I have had ongoing pain since then. It only pains if I talk, sing, whistle smile etc. Need to limit talking to only several short conversations per day. I am sick of taking analgesics and applying Xylocaine anaesthetic cream when it gets severe. If I remain in a "vow of silence" the pain subsides. I have not played since injured, very sad indeed ....I have sought solutions/remedies all over the world for last 10 plus years, MRIs and ultrasounds show no abnormality and there has been no surgery or obvious physical damage. I have had countless consults and discussions in person and via phone and web with Drs, professors, Neuros etc etc ... latest attempt to reduce pain was taking gabapentin, the small amount of relief was not worth the side effects of taking it.. The next (last?) throw of the dice is my Neurologist wants to try small botox injections at end of lip area... any one any thoughts? ideas? advice? experience??..
I do thank Steven very much for his thoughts on matter, over last couple of months. I just thought I would cast the net out again as I imagine the botox effects (side effects) will last at least 3 months.
Whilst I have taken up guitar and bass, which I do enjoy, it just doesn't "cut the mustard" with what you can express with a horn 😞
To be pain free and normal again is the goal.. to play again would be an amazing bonus..
Thanks for taking the time to read my plaintive plea
      Take care
      stay well, God Bless Doug

Where do you live? Just curious if there is a trumpet professor nearby you could consult with.

@bigdub The 180 is the overall length of the tubing in inches, and the 43 is the measurement in inches from mouthpiece to bell. S is for silver, of course. It's a BIG mutha!

You know your trombones. I’ll have to trust you on that one, Jercho
