    • RE: Martin Committee Club

@tjcombo said in Martin Committee Club:

I joined the Committee club during lockdown about a year back with this beauty. It was a roll-of-the-dice purchase. A couple of patches of missing lacquer made it look a bit suss. At the price - USD1600, I thought it might be worth throwing some money at it for repairs.
It arrived in its original case which is currently being restored. Turns out to be straight as a die, very little wear on the valves and fits me like a glove. Itโ€™s been my daily player since it arrived and has just come back from a chemical clean and valve alignment.
It was made in my year of birth which makes it even more special to me.86290673-2701-4D38-B3A6-E3DF5E272CD6.jpeg

What year / bore size? I think you got a great deal.

Sounds fine to me. Just like a bagpipe should.

    • RE: The Serpent

Each genre of instrument goes well with the specific genre of music that was created with it.

I can enjoy a period piece on either a centuries old (replica) natural trumpet, or a modern Schagerl Piccolo trumpet. Different sounds and different reproductions.

Print is still too light. Is there a way to darken it?

Yes, I will need to edit the styles. It may be a few days.

I am aware of a bug that has recently appeared where the mobile menu does not work properly. I am working on fixing this, it may take a few days. Thank you to those who helped make me aware of this issue.

    • RE: glad there's no fighting here

We are almost to 200 users. I suspect when we get the 40k+ that TH has, we might see a few more issues. Nevertheless, I already have an edge on them simply because I use software newer than 2005.

    • RE: Traits that make a great sight reader?

@rowuk said in Traits that make a great sight reader?:

There are various traits that make for good site reading.

      1. large collection of memorized patterns
      2. ability to negotiate the diagonal (end of one line to the beginning of the next)
      3. ability to โ€œhearโ€ intervals (different than #1)
      4. well taken care of chops
      5. an organised approach before playing a note - key signatures and accidentals, natural feel for phrasing/breathing
      6. a lot of experience site reading

Hearing the intervals is the easy part. Making that instant connection to which note it is is much harder. Hearing harmonic changes is even harder than that.

@L-A-Horn Well, I guess you could try one of those new Chinese horns in the marketplace, but I wouldn't expect much for $350. If that is all I had to spend I would try to find something in a used Olds.

Just to clarify, Taiwan is not China.

Now that's a can of worms!
