I played 2nd trumpet on this piece as a freshman in college. It was a real stretch for me at the time.

I use Everclear. 95% Alcohol. I drink a big swig then play my horn. Kills everything in it.

      Including brain cells.

@Shifty it does, but minimally. I'll create a Patreon account. If we get enough donates I can even cut the ads altogether. Doesn't need to make a profit. Just needs to cover the server costs.

    • RE: Goodbye adjustable finger ring

I have had a few horns with those adjustable rings. I think they existed so that somebody could have one of those things that holds marching band music.....I forget what it's called. But yeah, they are annoying.

I see no reason why I, or anyone on here would be in the least bit liable for the behavior of a single individual. Using this site in no way means that I condone everything that occurs on it.

    • RE: Absence explained (mother passed away...)

I love to walk through graveyards. Is that weird? 😉

Well, anyway, to me, they are very sacred places. It reminds me that every single headstone was once a living, breathing person, with feelings and desires just like us. Even the little babies who died had a mother who loved and probably grieved deeply over her loss. Studying world history is fun, but studying individual history is profound and moving. It also reaffirms my deep belief in the eventual resurrection of all mankind. I hope you can find some peace, @ButchA .

Well duh!! It's a 2B and they're scarce anyway. The guy next to me plays his and it sounds great. He's 93 and the original owner! Give yourself a Christmas present for doing such a great job with TB!!!

Ha! Thanks. I think I will go for it.

    • RE: LONG TONES

I'm not a fan of "long tones." Hear me out (I do have a degree in trumpet performance):

As trumpet players, we hardly ever just play a single note and hold it as long as we can. I can't even think of one instance off the top of my head, with the exception of the intro to the overture "Rienzi," but, even then, we don't just "hold" it, but rather crescendo and decrescendo in a controlled manner.

I subscribe more to the Cichowicz idea of "moving long tones." If I have only 30 minutes to practice in a day, I'll do some Stamp exercises and then maybe a lyrical etude. The goal is to develop sound, centering of pitches and continuity of air, something that long tones doesn't help much with.

I apologize in advance if this post should have been placed under “Pedagogy”, perhaps under “James Stamp” or “Medical Concerns” subcategory “Hernias”. I was going through some files I had saved 2 years ago and found this one. I don’t recall where it came from. It could have been from TM or some other site. Never the less, I thought that the lessons that could be learned were so worthwhile that it should be resurrected in spite of the hernia risk.

Thank you @ACB , I was not aware. It makes financial sense to do so, but proves the point that less and less companies are "100% homemade." I mean, Toyota uses a BMW engine in their new Supra!

Geez!! My 1400sqft ranch is worth $350k now - give it a Seattle zip and it would go for around $700k. The most expensive home for sale in my hometown in ME is listed for $100k, and is overpriced in that area. It’s a 6 bed Victorian with an apartment over the carriage house and a guest cottage. We could buy that house and never have to work again, and be bored out of our minds for the rest of our lives. We’ll happily stick with what we’ve got!

I know, where the jobs are not, there the houses are big and cheap!

    • RE: LONG TONES

I like these long tones because they remind me a lot of Stamp studies. In Stamp studies, you use the same embouchure to go down as low as possible and then back up, as high as possible.

I use to be on TM but got fed up with a jerk named rowuk. What good is quality information when it's served on a shit sandwich. No one likes being belittled or being made to feel stupid regardless of the pearls of wisdom offered up.

He's here too, actually, and I would welcome his input.
