I've had a couple. They aren't bad but certainly not professional level trumpets.

Bugles Across America
If you live in the United States and have a few extra minutes once a month or so, please consider joining Bugles Across America, a service organization dedicated to providing live buglers at Military Funerals and Functions. I have personally performed for several veterans' funerals, as well as a number of Veteran's Day celebrations. It is always satisfying and, occasionally, you get free food!

RE: How to add a photo on trumpet boards
All you have to do is drag-n-drop. Super easy.

RE: Flugel Thread
I really love those brushed Adams flugels. They play in tune, as well, which is a real feat for a Flugelhorn.
I once owned a Willson (Conn) flugelhorn. It had a lovely tone but the pitch was monstrous. I ended up gluing (!) a stick with a penny on the end of it and a giant spring to create a trigger for the 3rd valve.
Did I commit a felony gluing a penny to my Flugelhorn?

Anybody master the 1-3, 2-4 trill?
Anybody master the 1-3, 2-4 trill on a piccolo trumpet? This seems like the ultimate fingering challenge, although a complete waste because there are easier & better-sounding alternatives!

RE: Stagg cornets
At that price you can just throw it away and replace it anyway...isn't that the society we live in already?

RE: Third valve
@Curlydoc said in Third valve:
Why do low D and DB seem to require extension of the third valve slide to be in tune while other notes requiring the third valve do not? Could a trumpet be made so that the third valve slide is unnecessary?
It has to do with the combined length of the 1st & 3rd valves. Trumpet design is always a compromise. If it were not, our trumpets would have 12 valves instead of 3. The slide allows for adjustments to tuning on certain pitches.

RE: Cornet blog
I played in a British-style Brass Band for a couple of years. Our principal cornet was even a Brit, so that makes it somewhat legit, right?
Here's an interesting fact I learned. Here in Utah, there used to a plethora of brass bands. In the 19th century, many Mormon emigrants came from Europe to the "Deseret Territory" (now Utah), and settled north, west, east and south. One of the cultural traditions they brought with them was the brass band. I understand it was more of a tradition across the country in those days anyway, seeing as brass bands were an important part of morale-boosting in the Civil War.
Here is a photo of a ladies' band. Pretty neat. No such thing exists now. We still have the Tabernacle Choir, but only one brass band remains in the state, and that was started by a modern-day, British emigrant. Kind of sad to see that this tradition no longer exists.

RE: Nirschl B300
@ras100 said in Nirschl B300:
I was told by the seller that he was the second owner and bought the trumpet in 2010 for $700. I was told by another person that the trumpet listed for $1800 but sold for about $1200. Funny that the bell has Geretsried/Elkhart engraved under the name W. Nirschl. For what it's worth I've owned several nice horns including a 1962 Conn Constellation and a nice Bach student horn. This horns plays and sounds good. Thanks for all the replies.
The main thing is that it plays well. Everything else only matters when it comes to resale value.
