Some quotations stick with us forever, because they have meaning, sometimes revealing and profound. Please post the ones that you can't forget. I'll start with the one in my signature.

"If it was just up to me, I'd only have trumpet players on my show." - Jackie Gleason

        Life’s tough....
It’s even tougher if you’re stupid

        People don’t plan to fail....
        People fail to plan

        You can’t fix stupid

Not sure where any of these come from. Heard them all my life, and now I use them quite a bit. My grandpa said that his grandma use to say the first one when he was a little boy. So it’s at least 150 years old

The second one is something I picked up in middle school from my history teacher

The last is something every new guy is told when he does something stupid

There are basically two types of people. People who accomplish things, and people who claim to have accomplished things. The first group is less crowded.

          Mark Twain

When asking First-Call L.A. Studio player Bob Fleming about all the intricacies involved in getting a good breath on trumpet, he said, "Cough", which I did. Then he said, "See?"

At one time recruitment ads for the Navy said: "Join the Navy and see the world." My mother corrected them and said: "Join the Navy and see the sea."

I remember another recruitment slogan: "Join Special Forces. Travel to exotic lands. Meet interesting people. And kill them."

Can you show me a copy of that one, Jericho? Having worked in Air Force Public Affairs in the Pentagon for a few years, I'd love to see that for contrast.

@Kehaulani I remembered incorrectly; the actual quote is: "Join the Army; travel to exotic, distant lands; meet exciting, unusual people and kill them." https://www.loc.gov/item/2015648403/

While we're on the Military: "If you want to march, join the Army. If you want to fly, join the Air Force. If you want to have steak for dinner every night, join the Navy. But if you want to fight, join the Marines!" I don't remember the source; just something I heard long ago.

Thanks Jerico. That's what the poster says but I find it hard to believe that they could use the "kill them", officially.

LOL. Actually, I used to walk right next to a field that would have leathernecks and swabbies playing football. Eventually the stands would empty with them fighting each other

“It takes a pretty good drummer to be better than no drummer at all.”

I almost never use a drummer ... for this very reason. But I do know one "pretty good drummer", that I use when the gig calls for one. 😉
