So not so remote, but with social distancing (mask wearing by the rhythm section) at a neighborhood concert on Labor Day Weekend. Anyone can guess the song changes that I am blowing for this improv?

I was going to say “Little Brown Jug” until you gave it away with your next post.

Yeah I didn't get a connection from Doc's song changes to Girl From Ipanema at first but after I knew the name of the song I could hear it.
BTW, Doc, some nice trumpet work there.
-
I caught The Girl From Ipanema at 0:20; the chord change at that point, combined with the rhythm, gave it away.

You have a good ear. I missed that chord change.

@SSmith1226 that was great, man. Loved seeing the performers and the end credits.
And if this is the Youth Ensemble, I'll add that I sure don't know what's gotten into today's youth.

That’s what lock down does to you.

Nice video editing too!Thanks for the complements. On behalf of myself and the co-conspirators, which by the way is a very polite, proper, and appropriate term, we thank you for your very kind words.

That was really great - very well done indeed

I will answer that question after the election.

I’m currently involved in recording a virtual orchestral performance of Christmas music (some of it quite complicated) that will be broadcast locally in December. Playing along with a click track/backing track in headphones is a bit tricky, especially when there are holds and ritards in the piece. You have to listen to it and play along numerous times to be able to anticipate what’s happening. We’re doing multiple takes of the pieces, so the recording folks can hopefully piece together an acceptable product.

I put this together in a similar fashion. There was a lot of audio editing. By the time I was ready to do the video I was over it, especially since I was the audio and video guy as well as the performer. -
This sort of project provides a reminder of the skills and patience required of audio engineers/producers. I'm currently putting together an iso track with my jazz band. We started with a click track + chords (generated by iReal Pro) that was circulated to all band members who then recorded their contribution. Mixing the audio and in particular aligning all the parts in time is incredibly laborious. It's taken about six hours so far for a five minute track. I'm sure that second time around would be much quicker, but damn, it's fiddly work. Then there's going to be another learning curve for the video...

@tjcombo
It is not easy. I can’t imagine doing what you are doing without a chart on every part to reference. Please post the finished product! -
@SSmith1226 shall do Steve. This project underlines the "organic" nature of playing together as a group. I'm missing that so much.

I finished the last socially distanced recording session (that I mentioned earlier) tonight. Things were pretty tight on the last run-throughs and we got to go home a little early. It was about a 50 piece orchestra, and I’m surprised everything went as well as it did, especially on one piece that booked at 180 bpm - concentrate on the click track in the headphones and the chart, and don’t pay attention to anything else that’s going on. I’m anxious to hear the finished product.

@Dale-Proctor
Quite a feat, Dale. You have my deep, deep respect.
