What Is Your Favorite Version of the National Anthem?
-
As most Americans (and friends around the world) know, Veteran's Day is coming up and as a small way of remembering, ask yourself, "What's my favorite version of the Star Spangled Banner?".
Mine?

I'm old school when it comes to the National Anthem. I see no reason to change it and, while musically one might want to modernise it, for me, the SSB exists in a time warp and should be played as close to the hip as possible. The military bands have, and play, the "authorized" version. I feel that gives it the kind of dignity and authenticity it deserves.
As an aside, many of the interpretations I hear at major sporting events make me want to puke.

Hands down the best ever for me!! SIZZLING!!!!

Not my favorite, but a very good and unique one:

Isn't that the truth. I remember hearing Rosanne Barr sing it once and it was criminal.

@Tobylou8
OOOOO! I forgot about Whitney's version. That is killer! -
Just in case any of our overseas colleagues missed it.....
-
One of the most memorable for me since I was a resident of New Orleans at the time.

It would behoove Al to study the lyrics.

I am generally with Kehaulani when it comes to the SSB, but I did enjoy Arturoβs performance. And that 7 y/o girl was just super. What an enjoyable thread!

Arturo's version is my favorite, too. Among other things, The Star Spangled Banner is about fireworks, isn't it?
The most enjoyable and satisfying National Anthem I experienced was when I responded to a BAA request for To the Colors as the flag was raised, followed by The Star Spangled Banner. It was a special event staged by a local company on Veterans Day. The patriotism of everyone involved and everyone who was there was palpable. I played the song absolutely straight, singing the words in my head as I played and as the employees sang along, and I was touched by the compliments I received afterward for doing so.

BTW - FWIW... Roseanne Barr performed The Star Spangled Banner; she did not sing it!

Being a Canadian, I will just say this: you are not alone, my American friends. I have heard Canada's National Anthem mangled more times than I can count.
BTW, that little girl's version of SSB was truly precious.
