Structure of the Trumpet by Yamaha

Didn't this string start out with a short commercially made simple presentation of how a trumpet works as an instrument? And then it got into a buzzing debate. Then it got into a strange twist about technical vocabulary and scientifically focused explanation as opposed to simple explanations.
I'd be more interested in how to get a kid to understand how to put his or her or...whatever the present correct assortment of gender assignments are... lips to a mouthpiece on a trumpet or cornet and consistently produce a musical note by actually getting what it takes to do so. Any of you know anything about that?

"But for those who's goal it is of playing the trumpet well... the physics does help."
I'm not going to hunt this post down, but I don't see the conflict at face value.
Thanks Kehaulani. I agree there is no conflict intended. I contacted the Administrator to try to get us back on track.

When starting a beginning child out for the first time, I get them to free buzz. Once they are comfortable with this, I have the child place the mouthpiece to their already buzzing lips to here the transition to the metal. Then while this buzzing unit is ongoing, and while the child holds the mouthpiece to the face, I pull the leadpipe to gently insert onto the bore of the mouthpiece to hear how this completed assembly produces a change in sound.

It did.

It did go in that direction as buzzing is at the beginning end of the physics of the trumpet. Why the debate, I do not understand. There are many ways to energize the air in the trumpet, and what ever flow technique is used to achieve this, more power to them. There is no "one way is better than another" so to me there is no debate. I just wanted to clarify there is more than one way to start the physical process for all the trumpet physics that follow.
But I do hope your point is picked up upon. Hopefully this thread will work its way past the mouthpiece, down the leadpipe, through the valve casing and into the bell.

I see you text is bold. Please explain why that statement would taken as such. I really don't understand. It is my honest opinion, it's not meant to be pretentious. Have I offended anyone else here on TH with this statement.
Wow!?
The whole discipline of physics could not exist and there would still be a lot of really good trumpet players out there. "But for those who's goal it is of playing the trumpet well...the physics does help" Who says? You!
I (and everyone else on this site) don't need to know squat about physics to be a damned good trumpet player. I need to know lip slurs, articulation, dynamics, scales, etc. just like I don't need to know how to make sausage in order to be a great chef.
You can bark to the administrator all you want. Its your specialty every since a certain discussion about embouchures but that's your prerogative. Part of my prerogative? Calling out insulting posts when I read them. I'll stick with pretentious. "But for those who's goal it is to play the trumpet well, the physics does help". Darned I guess my (and a lot of other people's) goal of playing the trumpet well are dashed because I'm not opening even one physics book. -

I just stated, without theoretic detail, that the physics helps. I am sure others here may agree, and perhaps they too would like to comment. Other then you stating over and over and over and over again you disagree about physics, perhaps you can give some space to others to reply. I mean the title of the thread is "Structure of the Trumpet". Isn't physics implied?
That is where I would like to see the value of this thread lead. Niner tried to get this back on track, so let's agree to work toward Niner's goal to move forward, OK?

Those are your words. Live with it and don't be condescending by saying for me to "calm down" I don't know who you think you are but you really should stop. Like I said in past posts, if you have a problem with me, do it in a chat.

@Niner I give beginners 3 things to do
Breathe
Lips together
Blow. This seems to do the trick,
The more advanced version is
Breathe out then breathe in
Hold the lips together as if saying the letter M
Blow gently at the apogee of the breath out - breath in. -
@Trumpetsplus Thanks. I like that idea. The buzzing thing is more like an exercise than a technique it seems to me and shoving a horn onto a mouthpiece a kid is buzzing seems just wrong....and no offense Dr. Go. I'll try the M thing with my grandkids.
-
@Niner The part that many get wrong is blowing. Often they tense up and perform the val salva manouevre. I give them a straw and invite them to hold it between their lips and blow "spitballs".
If they have difficulty getting a note it is often helpful for them to moisten their lips.
Can't do this by written instruction or by Skype. Best to be in the same room to experience the situation with them.
-
@Trumpetsplus Thanks. I'm taking notes.

Why the debate, I do not understand.
It started with you arguing with the Yamaha Corp. about buzzing. The Yamaha Corp. said that the trumpeter produces sound from the trumpet by buzzing his lips.
You said "This is just wrong" and then went on say that you and Tine Helseth don't buzz which you were shown to be incorrect. That's how it started. How about we take some wise advice and move away from this topic. -

Dr. Mark, for you own good, please heed the advice of the Administrator. We would like to keep you here.

Could I interject a bit of unsolicited advise?
Both Dr.s. How about giving it a rest? I think the points on both sides have been made and to do it again has no effect but to keep aggravating the situation.
-
@Kehaulani
Wise words Kehaulani. I'm all in for giving it a rest. -
Seems as if it doesn’t matter... I see a red “banned” banner next to one of the names. I’m not sure what happened there.

C...c....can't we all get along?

Where are all the other forum members and potential members? Too theoretical and pedantic for them?
Good point
Honestly? Who wants to argue this point? I don't post for a week and a leading member is banned? Over a buzzing thread?? Mouthpiece choice, death cage match for sure! Buzzing? Just let the no buzzers alone. There's no cure for cognitive dissonance!
