Kehaulani reached out to me on a different forum and asked me to post this message on his behalf. I've not been part of this thread, and am not commenting on it personally. I'm just posting this message for him.

      Mike

"Mike has graciously agreed to post this message for me. I was involuntarily logged out of every one of my sites. Logging back in to TrumpetBoards has been especially problematic. Everything I have done over a three-day period has been to no avail. My solution is really to just forget it and withdraw from the site.

But before I do, there is a current thread that my withdrawal is pertinent to answering its question as well as the reason I'm just going ahead and withdrawing.

For the most part this Forum is more of a social club than a real exchange of musical knowledge. That's O.K. And for those who use it for that, I hope they enjoy the camaraderie. Very few members have any real musical depth or experience to pass along. This is also O.K. This is not judgmental, just an observation.

It's been pointed out that there is an increase of people signing up. I would counter that many of these don't return, either.

I need as many answers as I can get. This Forum seldom does it. I can get the same and more from Trumpet Herald. Yes, it has some jack-asses. I can be one. And IMO, there is WAY too much “paralysis-by-analyses”, micro-nit picking, threads that can't stick to the subject and, sometimes, just plain old misinformation.

But it has a much larger contributor base than this Forum and once you've become accustomed to its “contributors” can be of considerable help. The kind of help I need is seldom to be found here.

So, I hope this answers the Thread question from my POV and, in doing so, also explains why I'm not going to be an active member. It's not negative.

I thank Mike very much for posting this and appreciate it very much.

@tmd Thank you for the assist!

That is so interesting! Like getting a "message from beyond the veil". It's rare that a web forum gets to do an exit survey. 😄

I have seen the same problems at TrumpetHerald, and have decided not to create an account there for the time being, and I think this forum is a bit friendlier and more useful. The only drawback I see to Trumpetboards is the low traffic/participation.

For now, I will just continue to participate, and maybe to a somewhat larger extent now that I'm trying to limit my time on Meta services.

@jolter I think your initial post fairly summed up the issues.
I would prefer Reddit, I think, if it was for pro or pro-am players only, but it's overrun by high school students (I know they have to be somewhere).
Personally, I find TrumpetHerald to be far and away the most useful trumpet forum. DECADES of posts with some incredibly useful stuff (and some bs, I know).
I would give anything to get that forum upgraded to a more modern format. IDK what it would take to do it - maybe buy it?
I don't see much value in trumpetboards - I get the weekly digest mainly because I'm a huge trumpet nerd and don't want to miss anything. 😄

Upgrading TrumpetHerald would be a full-time job for several months.

TrumpetBoards offers comprehensive, perhaps even exhaustive, access to all things trumpet-related and beyond. It is easy to use. We have members who are capable of answering any questions asked, and we are welcoming to all who participate. We address subjects beyond trumpets for those who acknowledge that the trumpet, however large or small a part of one's life, is still a part that is not exclusive of other aspects.

For those who prefer Trumpet Herald, perhaps bringing the same subject up on each forum and comparing the responses might be interesting. I don't understand why there is so little participation here, and yet there is that reality.

Thought I mentioned it before but cannot find my original post. My contribution to the comparison of TH and TB is I cannot find a better discussion than on TB as to medical aspects relating to the health of trumpet players in specific or musicians in general. I am not a member of TH (as I do not find it as user friendly). I do scan it frequently and do not find appropriate detailed discussion as to health issues on the TH site. This is why I started a Medical Discussion section to TB. I believe this is a unique quality of this site, and am glad it is used by our members.

I know we have several physicians and medically trained individuals on this site, that is more evident than I can find on TH. So we do have the expertise and individual credentialed to provide helpful content to this component of TB and have been grateful to our members that have used the aspect of this forum to getting qualified medical advice.

                      Interesting comments.

Trumpetboards members are friendly and welcoming.

The members in Trumpetboards are both knowledgeable and helpful

Trumpetboards Members talk on topics about trumpets, related instruments, and other important topics beyond brass instruments.

Trumpet Herald members can be unwelcoming and downright unfriendly and they dont like people who disagree with them, but they have a large body of historic knowledge and posts.

I liken the Trumpet Herald to a library where you can find huge amounts of historic information but you have to keep quiet while you are there.

I have seen the bad treatment that people get in TrumpetHerald if they speak their mind and give an opposing opinion on a topic.

I liken Trumpetboards to a college where there is not as much historic information but you can speak freely and can learn a great deal.

A college is far more useful than a library. I am on the internet, the biggest library on the planet, I dont need yet another library.

The danger with Libraries is they can make a nice warm home for unpleasant people to inhabit who then refuse to leave.

Trumpetboards encourages learning and that is exactly how a good forum should be.

This is an open message to the administrator.

Kehaulani is one of the most respected members of this site and it would be a great loss if he never returned.

I have seen some big problems with other sites preventing their members logging in for no apparent or logical reason, that magically fixed themselves after some weeks of frustration by the member affected and the admin of the site.

I believe kehaulanis issues are of this kind, where he does everything correctly many times over but to no avail, and the admin is defeated time after time when trying to resolve the issue for him.

Can I ask the admin to revisit this issue and work with kehaulani on it in the hopes of defeating this software account issue whatever it is.

And could any member who has contact with kehaulani ask him to try again to gain access.

The members miss him, I miss him, and I want to see this issue resolved if at all possible.

We all suffer issues in our lives from time to time and I know kehalani has suffered more than his share of them, but an inability to log in to a site that he wants to log in to and that wants him to log in to it but the software stonewalls him, should not be one of them.

Can it be looked at again.

                          Thanks in advance

This thread has given me a twinge of guilt for not posting more. I’m grateful for the weekend digests in my email as they prompt me to regularly scan these pages.

Of late, life has been getting in the way of browsing this and other social media (both good and not so good distractions). At 67y.o. I’m contemplating retirement from a rewarding job that I love, to do other things, musical and other, that I love a little more.

Thanks to @administrator for your commitment to continuing to run this board. I’ll continue with my modest Patreon contribution.

…and I also hope to see @Kehaulani posting again. His advice and observations have been most helpful along with those of other TBers.

Of late, life has been getting in the way of browsing this and other social media (both good and not so good distractions). At 67y.o. I’m contemplating retirement from a rewarding job that I love, to do other things, musical and other, that I love a little more.

I contemplated retiring at 65. Did so, and within 2 months started a new career. I am now 68 and no where near planning on retiring.

I retired at 67 and never looked back…I’m 71 now and don’t miss working at all. I enjoyed the nuts and bolts of my work (I was engineering manager for a fire suppression contractor), but the decline of the quality of the construction industry and increasing governmental red tape every year made my job a daily headache. After retiring, I bought a sports car, we upsized to a nicer home, and now I’m trying to get back into good playing shape and making good progress. 🙂

I'm 34 and I doubt I will ever truly "retire." I think that is a common attitude among my generation.

So, with my new perspective as I noted above, have I become a part of your generation?

                                          Perhaps!
