After experimenting with all kinds of mute holders and investing in both ready-made things like the Manhasset Mute Rings, and even some purpose-built thingies, I've reverted to using a very simple thing... a K&M Music Holder with four prongs. Each prong can hold a mute, and the Bucket and Plunger easily fit in the middle. I've been using that in daily Big Band business, and it's the safest thing to use. https://www.thomann.de/at/km_131_music_holder_bk.htm

Here is my take on holders, folds up small. I ended up finding strong clamps and made a few dozens for all my trumpet playing band mates, even adapting for the small wire type music stands. This one was my last of 5 versions, and is about 3 years old

Total parts cost is aprox. $7 cad, most expensive is the heavy duty clamp (about $3) out of all the ones I gave away, only 1 clamp broke. Working on a new design, but this sets up with one hand in 2 seconds. One even gets a rubber sleeve to protect the cup mute rim.

Call me simple, and surely the cheapest (but not necessarily the best), I use the floor.

@dr-go The floor as a stand creates the greatest distance and strain for the back. Only recommended in combination with Yoga.

My Back-2-Life machine keeps things pretty much in line. In my case, the only painful stoop is the one holding the horn.
