Rock, Pop, Classic 70's "Horn Bands" from back in the day?

Hi Tobylou8,
The Ukraine and Russia are two different countries. The Ukraine declared it's independence in the early 1990's from the (I think) Soviet Union.
Great news! Because of your upload, I now have tickets to see Leonid & Friends at the Plaza Live in Orlando. Once again, thank you very much! -

Leonid & Friends
Oh, man. I love Leonid & Friends. Enjoy!
While there are still horn bands around, I personally hear them in retro contexts. Sad. It seems that kind of creativity ended with the 70s.

Damned Tobylou8,
The Ukrainian band that plays Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is, is absolutely killer! Thank you very much!It even holds true in the Ukraine that "If it can be heard, it can be had."
These guys prove it. Bravo!Yep! The Chicago cover band as good as Chicago!!!

Not from back in the day, but a recent horn band called The Strike. The song is "Atom Bomb". Nice horn feature on the end of the tune from about 3:20 to the end.

Hi Tobylou8,
I was reading up on Leonid and Friends and many sites call it a Russian band and some sites go as far as saying that they are from Moscow. With that said, I stand corrected. You were right. They are from Russia.
Regardless of where they are from, thank you for turning us on to them. I fortunately got tickets and will see them in December.
I wonder if Moscow Mitch will be on bass or keyboards (just kidding) we all know he does backup vocals for Kiss -

Hi Kehaulani,
If I remember correctly, ole Moscow Mitch was told by a very dapper man in a pinstriped suit, "Don't make a fuss, just get on the bus and be a crew slut" -
Love this stuff! I studied with Chuck Winfield from BS&T for a while in college- fabulous player and wonderful person. It was a little daunting walking into his studio the first time with all the gold records and Downbeat awards on the wall, but he was super nice. He was a little too nice to study with at that level because everything you did was wonderful, very little criticism. I ultimately moved to another instructor who kicked my butt remorselessly, and it was worth it! Chuck was great to work with, though, and could play anything!

YES! That's what it takes from an instructor. Starting a note, ending a note, dynamics, articulation, expression, tone, and the list goes on. It takes a person that will address these issues with the developing student. I'm not saying that a person needs to turn into Buddy Rich (whatta prick) but the instructor needs to be firm but supporting.

@Tobylou8
Chicagovich. Now that's funny. But they do Chicago better than the present day Chicago -
I have watched a bunch of You Tube clips of that Russian band called "Leonid and Friends". They are absolutely mind blowing! They not only play Chicago, dead-on, 100%, note for note, but they also can do Earth, Wind & Fire, and also Blood, Sweat & Tears too.
It's kind of funny when you watch some of the other You Tube clips (non musical). It's obvious they are all pure, solid, Russian, but only 2 or 3 of them are able to hold an "English" interview with a reporter & camerman! ...just sayin'
They must have not only learned Chicago's songs musically, but they learned to sing them PHONETICALLY as well. That in itself is a serious challenge!!
Incredible...

You're going to see them this winter?! How cool. Share with us . . . and enjoy!

Hi Kehaulani,
Yes, I'm going to see them in December. I'm taking my daughter who's a seriously killer trumpet player when it comes to Paganini and Bach but has very little background with combo stuff like BST, EWF, etc.. This will be good exposure for her. -
Closest the come to me is a 4 hour+ drive. Maybe next year??
-
@Tobylou8
I'll report back after I see them -

I had a trumpet teacher as a tween who signed his death warrant the day he came over for dinner and my father played the trumpet solo from An American in Paris and said that one of these days I'll play like that, and my teacher said it in all seriousness, "Gary plays like that now". I soon moved to another teacher.
