I picked this horn up for $250. First time I've owned a 43*. Yes, it needs several hundred dollars worth of repairs, but still a good deal in my mind.

@administrator If the valves are good, the dents are fixable. That's a good buy.

Yes, that was a steal! I can tell by the pinky hook that it’s an older one, too, from the ‘70s or earlier. I have a standard 43 from 1976 and it’s been a keeper since I bought it in the early 1980s.

Nice buy! I like the 43 and 72 bells much better than the 37 - better sound IMO. The 37 always feels a bit more nasal to me. Good news is since Bach’s tend to retain their value, even if you have to put some $$ into it you’ll get it back. Whether you end up liking it or not, it could always end up a good trade towards something you like better.

              Daily players: Adams A1, A4LT, F2 flugel , CN1 cornet.

This certainly sounds like a good deal and I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but I think I did pretty good a few years ago. I actually found a 5 digit serial # Strad in a pawn shop, silver plated #37 that was basically perfect (no work needed) for $299, they didn't know what they had.

Yeah, as a percentage of the new price at the time, probably around $450 today.Around that same time, I bought a 1955 Mt. Vernon ML 43 trumpet at a junk auction for $60. It was pretty beat up, but I had it cosmetically overhauled and it looked like new. I kept both trumpets for years, but eventually sold the Mt. V on eBay for a little over $2000. It played great, but not any better than the $150 one, which was worth about $800 at the time. I needed a good cornet for brass band, so the Mt. Vernon was put on the auction block.
