    • To Reduce Covid-19 Risks in Orchestras, Move Wind Instruments to the Sidelines

According to an article published in the Smithsonian Magazine, “ To stop microbe-carrying droplets from spreading in an orchestra, turn the seating arrangement inside out. According to research published on June 23 in the journal Science Advances, orchestras should move percussion to center stage, move clarinets and trombones to the back, and most importantly, put the trumpets in the corners. “

    • RE: H.N. White Silver Tone Cornet Mouthpiece

@richard-iii said in H.N. White Silver Tone Cornet Mouthpiece:

If you can find one, the Cleveland C vintage cornet mouthpiece is very nice. The shank contour seems to be unique for that era. I have two of the mouthpieces and the only difference is the rim. I also have a H. N. White C mouthpiece and it is slightly different with a smaller bore size.

Thanks for your input. I have ordered a Curry mouthpiece (Conn Shank) which I believe is a short shank. If it does mot work, I will pursue the Cleveland C. I did look into two of the other brands suggested in above discussion. One review indicated a 19 1/2 week delivery time for one if the brands. I was unable to find the other suggested brand in the appropriate size.

http://www.currympc.com/index.php?id=49 mentions shanks for Olds, Conn, Besson, and Holton, but not King. I'd guess that The larger Olds shank might fit, but I'm not sure if the taper would be the same.

Thanks J.Jericho, AKA Rick Martin. I saw that King was not mentioned. I will try to contact Curry Mouthpieces and see whether they have a vintage mouthpiece for this cornet.

    • H.N. White Silver Tone Cornet Mouthpiece

I recently acquired a H.N. White King Silver Tone Cornet from the early 1930’s. My standard Bach 7c Cornet Mouthpiece fits loosely and slightly wiggles in the receiver. A “King 7k Mouthpiece” that I acquired separately on eBay has the same issue.
Does any one have any experience with this cornet, of this vintage era, and have any suggestions as what mouthpiece brand and model to order?
Below are photos of the horn and receiver.
      Thanks for any input.

Same thing 50 years later as my community band rehearses Sinatra! (Arrangement by Stephen Bulla) He remains da man.

I just read your post from 15 days ago a few minutes ago. I played that arrangement in a Community Band Concert less than two hours ago in Duxbury, Massachusetts. It’s a great arrangement!

      Ivan,
I’m am sorry to hear that this “perfect storm” of events has radically changed your life.
Alexander Graham Bell said, “ When one door closes another door opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the ones which open for us.”

It sounds like you are already looking at the opportunities brought on by the new “open doors”. Good luck, and much success with your future plans!

Expressionism.... Its typical trait is to present the world solely from a subjective perspective, distorting it radically for emotional effect in order to evoke moods or ideas.
