    • “Multi Instrumentalist”

Gunhild Carling is a true “multi instrumentalist”. The entire video is entertaining, but if you want to cut to the chase, advance the video to 3:00.

    • RE: H.N. White Silver Tone Cornet Mouthpiece

I received my Curry Conn Shank Cornet mouthpiece. My actual cornet is at Osmun Music having its valves rebuilt. I was able to insert the Curry Conn Shank Mouthpiece into the receiver of a bandmate’s King Silver Tone Cornet of the same era. It fit perfectly. The standard shank mouthpieces that were loose in my cornet were similarly loose in his cornet. I did also try a short shank Yamaha cornet mouthpiece as well, but it also fit loosely.
Because of the covid situation, I did not try to play his cornet with the Conn Shank Mouthpiece. It appears that the Conn Shank is the proper fit. I will report further about the playability with the Curry Conn Shank Mouthpiece when I get my cornet back in September.

    • RE: Some good...."non-trumpeting" music :)

Below is a duet with the Golden Gate Bridge.

Guitarist and songwriter Nate Mercereau turned to an unconventional source of inspiration when recording his latest EP: the sounds of San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge.

Thanks to a quirk (or a flaw, depending on your perspective) in the design of a recent structural modification, the bridge has been producing ethereal drone sounds in strong winds. The sound has caused some controversy among local residents, who have reported hearing it from as far as three miles away and described it as something akin to "a giant wheezing kazoo"….

    • RE: Outstanding performance!

As intricate and fast tempo as this performance was, I would wonder whether having Snookie Young standing and sitting directly behind Doc Severinsen keeping time on the sticks was a way of disguising a metronome to kelp keep him on track during the solos. Of course, during the piece, everyone was absolutely coordinated. Just look at Doc’s and Snookie Young’s fingers as they played Trumpet Section measures.

    • Outstanding performance!

This 1974 video of Doc Severinsen and the Tonight Show Band showed up today on my YouTube Feed. The energy level, skill, and musicianship are outstanding for a live performance! It is hard to believe that this was 47 years ago.

    • RE: A little humour

A middle-aged woman has a heart attack and is taken to the hospital. While on the operating table, she has a near-death experience. During that experience, she sees God and asks if this is it. God says NO and explains that she has another 30-40 years to live. Upon her recovery she decides to just stay in the hospital and have a face lift, liposuction, breast augmentation, tummy tuck - you name it, she had it. She even has someone come in and change her hair color. She figures since she's got another 30 or 40 years she might as well make the most of it. She walks out of the hospital after the last operation when she is killed by an ambulance speeding up to the hospital. She arrives in front of God and asks, "I thought you said I had another 30-40 years?" "Oh, " Said God. "I didn't recognize you."

      Is it kosher?

That is an interesting question. The general consensus is that for a wine to be considered kosher, it must be made under the supervision and certified by a Rabbi. This wine however is different. It also requires the supervision, certification, and blessing of a mohel.

    • RE: A little humour

A taxi passenger tapped the driver on the shoulder to ask him a question. The driver screamed, lost control of the car, nearly hit a bus, went up on the footpath, and stopped inches from a shop window.
For a second everything went quiet in the cab, then the driver said, “Look man, don’t ever do that again. You scared the daylights out of me!”
The passenger apologized and said, “I didn’t realize that a little tap would scare you so much.”
The driver replied, “Sorry, it’s not really your fault. Today is my first day as a cab driver – I’ve been driving a hearse for the last 25 years.

@bigdub said in Artist on BOARD:

Believe it or not, I have finally realized and have to concede that I have a bit of difficulty recognizing the difference between very dark blue and black. It has come up several times only recently but I would describe something as “black” and have everyone else who looks at it say, no, it’s dark blue!

I may have a solution to your dilemma. Go to YouTube and search for “Marcus Pincus the Tailor”. Choose the video called “The Tailor”. If you search specifically for “The Tailor” other videos will show up first.
If you watch this video, the comparative method solving your visual problem will be obvious. I am not posting it directly due to a language issue near the very end. If you are offended by crude language, in this case one word beginning with the 6th letter of the alphabet, then please don’t watch it. The below is a screen shot of the appearance of the video on YouTube. It is not a video link.
Thanks, and I hope it helps, or at least makes you smile.

and I cut short a holiday in Italy to be in their shop on Saturday morning... happy!

Congratulations on your new horn! However, what is much more important to many of us is, how did you convince your wife to end your Italian vacation early, in order for you to purchase an old trumpet. How ever you did it must have been brilliant, especially since you lived to write about it!!! Or, did you have to dictate this post?
