I'll ask my audiophile buddy later tonight. Of course, he spends $1,500 on speaker cables.....

RE: Olds Ambassador Eb Trumpet
I wind up playing the Eb parts in a couple of groups. I have a Getzen Eterna D/Eb trumpet that I used to use. Later I broke down and bought an Eb Yamaha Neo cornet. The Yamaha is better and more consistent. But I'm getting too old to cover those Eb parts these days. It seems like the higher horns should logically give you some extra range for free. Not so. Eb is a LOT more work and a completely different experience, no matter what horn you use.

RE: Martin Committee Club
- Martin Committee. Probably needs all of the felt, cork, and rubber bits replaced.
- View from the 2,450 SF house. Too much space taken up with work-from-home offices to have a trumpet room.

RE: AR Resonance Mouthpieces
@kehaulani Jet-Tone "Symphony C" for me, although it is stamped just "Jet-Tone C." I think it is a little smaller than the 3C and definitely has a more rounded rim. I used to use a Bach 10.5C when I wanted a smaller mouthpiece, but the 10.5C also has a very flat rim, similar to the 3C.

RE: AR Resonance Mouthpieces
So, here's a thought...... Jet-Tone. Yeah, I know the current ones are reproductions and some people are obsessed with the originals. However, I started struggling more with the 3C as I get older. (Limited endurance.) I had bought one of the new Jet-Tone "C" (or "Symphony C") models several years ago but never used it much. I tried it again, and it now seems to be the best option for me. The more rounded rim--which I used to not like--now gives me better endurance and several other benefits. It's just a thought and it's only $75.

RE: An Unusual Chet Baker Artifact?
I used to live down the street from William S. Burroughs (the "beat" writer). He was a notorious long-term heroin addict. One of my friends was his housekeeper. She said he had more laxatives stashed in that house than all of the Walgreen's in town combined.

RE: A little humour
@j-jericho Before daylight savings time, people just adopted a "summer schedule" or "double summer schedule." In the former, they scheduled everything an hour earlier. In the latter, they scheduled everything hours earlier. Leave the clocks alone. Just change the schedule.
-
RE: A little humour
@j-jericho When I worked for one of the railroads, nothing ever happened at either noon or midnight. Everything happened at either 11:59 or 12:01 just to avoid confusion of the whole 12:00 am/pm thing.

RE: Hetman. What's up?
I have a bunch of BERP and UltraPure and Monster Oil sitting around plus a few others. I even have some Hetman left, so it's not anything urgent. Hetman just seems to work well on my eclectic herd of horns. Monster Oil also works well, but it is more expensive since the bottles are only about half the size of Hetman. It's no big deal. I just wondered of others have seen the same thing.

Hetman. What's up?
Most of the major online music stores have been out of stock of Hetman valve oils. It has been that way for quite a while. There are smaller vendors on Amazon offering Hetman, but some of the prices are $15 to $25(!) per bottle. Anybody know what's going on?

RE: Wynton Marsalis trumpet
The spam from Spain is plainly just a pain.
There. That's better.

RE: Real Strad?
Hard to tell from just the one photo, but it sounds like a pretty good fake. But a fake nonetheless.

RE: Jamie’s Trumpet Gallery
Maybe it's a test to help keep out the riff-raff. Kind of like the soup nazi. If you walk in the door and say: "I like your trumpet parking sign" then NO HORNS FOR YOU. But if you say: "Hey, how come your sign shows a cornet but says only trumpet players allowed?", then you have passed the first test and might be deemed worthy to try one of the Bachs. Five additional rounds of empirical testing are required to be allowed to touch the Monettes.

RE: Which trumpet to buy?
Many years ago, I got to meet Bill Chase before one of their concerts, along with a group of other people. As part of the Q&A somebody asked him what horns they used. As I recall, the answer was: 1 Schilke (for Bill), 1 Connstellation, 1 Benge, and one I don't remember. Maybe a Committee or a Selmer something or other. In any event, that trumpet-centric group had 4 top-notch players that all used different horns. There isn't one right answer.

RE: Which trumpet to buy?
@administrator said in Which trumpet to buy?:
-- Used Bach 190 (lightly used) (probably) You can try before you buy and probably save some money over the new price.

RE: Travel Trumpet
The fit and finish of the Carol is excellent, BTW. The valves are very smooth and the slides are just right. The third slide that should move smoothly does and the others are not too loose.

RE: Travel Trumpet
And the answer is..... (Well, maybe it's the answer. I'll let you know after the trip.) ..... the Carol Brass mini trumpet. See pictures below next to the Dillon pocket trumpet. The Carol is slightly smaller and the case it fits in is much smaller than the Dillon. The Carol should fit in my suitcase much better. It also came with this larger bell adapter thing. It looks weird, but it really does help with the tone, especially in combination with a larger mouthpiece (1.5C). That combination sounds almost normal, although the intonation is off more than a normal trumpet, especially in the notes below middle C, for some reason.

RE: Looking for information on what appears to be a trumpet with six bells
It might have been on the old site, but someone linked to an East German (I think) schalmei band doing old favorite tunes such as "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." That band had three of the most beautiful women in the glockenspiel section I have ever seen. OK, I know it's sexist. They played great, but I couldn't keep my eyes off them. One woman must have been over 6 feet tall and gorgeous.
