@barliman2001 The Astronaut's March would have been a vast improvement. Does it have lyrics? Maybe we could write some and submit them to the Space Force. What they have surely can't last very long. Or maybe we could write some lyrics for the Belgian Paratroopers.

@newell-post ...actually, I think Mel did it better....

RE: The New US Space Force Anthem
It has been suggested by more than one commentator that they were inspired by Mel Brooks.

Where, oh where, is Tom Lehrer when we really need him....

The New US Space Force Anthem
That has got to be one of the most un-singable military songs of all time....

RE: Is there such a thing as a “natural player”?
In another "compartment" of my life I am actually a local politician. (Sorry. Don't hate me.) But I'm not really a "natural" politician. I'm really more of a technocrat, but I get by in local politics. But one of my colleagues is the most natural politician I have ever seen. Among other things he has a freakish natural ability to remember names. I was at a campaign meeting last night and he went around the room and introduced at least 50 people by name without error with no notes. I could never do that without messing it up. He has surely learned some political skills over time, but he also has some natural abilities that are just not normal. There might be some similarities in trumpet playing.

RE: Valve Springs
So, I started this string because I have an old Mercedes with valves that would hang up and balk. The answer was some light hand lapping of the pistons (even though they appear to have been lapped before) plus replacing the Bach springs with Jupiter springs. The Jupiter springs have the same "barrel" shape as Bach, but are longer and a little bit stiffer.

RE: Buying a new home audio system
I talked to my audiophile friend. He doesn't do $1,500 home stereo systems, but here's what he said....
- Just go to Best Buy and see what they have from Yamaha or Denon in your price range.
- Make sure the receiver has the right inputs to match the output of your keyboard. Many of the newer receivers don't have old-style inputs.
- If you can find actual specs for the system you are buying, make sure the electrical output of your keyboard is compatible with the input of the receiver. (It is probably OK. Just try to check.)

I'll ask my audiophile buddy later tonight. Of course, he spends $1,500 on speaker cables.....

RE: Olds Ambassador Eb Trumpet
I wind up playing the Eb parts in a couple of groups. I have a Getzen Eterna D/Eb trumpet that I used to use. Later I broke down and bought an Eb Yamaha Neo cornet. The Yamaha is better and more consistent. But I'm getting too old to cover those Eb parts these days. It seems like the higher horns should logically give you some extra range for free. Not so. Eb is a LOT more work and a completely different experience, no matter what horn you use.

RE: Martin Committee Club
- Martin Committee. Probably needs all of the felt, cork, and rubber bits replaced.
- View from the 2,450 SF house. Too much space taken up with work-from-home offices to have a trumpet room.

RE: AR Resonance Mouthpieces
@kehaulani Jet-Tone "Symphony C" for me, although it is stamped just "Jet-Tone C." I think it is a little smaller than the 3C and definitely has a more rounded rim. I used to use a Bach 10.5C when I wanted a smaller mouthpiece, but the 10.5C also has a very flat rim, similar to the 3C.

RE: AR Resonance Mouthpieces
So, here's a thought...... Jet-Tone. Yeah, I know the current ones are reproductions and some people are obsessed with the originals. However, I started struggling more with the 3C as I get older. (Limited endurance.) I had bought one of the new Jet-Tone "C" (or "Symphony C") models several years ago but never used it much. I tried it again, and it now seems to be the best option for me. The more rounded rim--which I used to not like--now gives me better endurance and several other benefits. It's just a thought and it's only $75.

RE: An Unusual Chet Baker Artifact?
I used to live down the street from William S. Burroughs (the "beat" writer). He was a notorious long-term heroin addict. One of my friends was his housekeeper. She said he had more laxatives stashed in that house than all of the Walgreen's in town combined.

RE: A little humour
@j-jericho Before daylight savings time, people just adopted a "summer schedule" or "double summer schedule." In the former, they scheduled everything an hour earlier. In the latter, they scheduled everything hours earlier. Leave the clocks alone. Just change the schedule.
-
RE: A little humour
@j-jericho When I worked for one of the railroads, nothing ever happened at either noon or midnight. Everything happened at either 11:59 or 12:01 just to avoid confusion of the whole 12:00 am/pm thing.

RE: Hetman. What's up?
I have a bunch of BERP and UltraPure and Monster Oil sitting around plus a few others. I even have some Hetman left, so it's not anything urgent. Hetman just seems to work well on my eclectic herd of horns. Monster Oil also works well, but it is more expensive since the bottles are only about half the size of Hetman. It's no big deal. I just wondered of others have seen the same thing.

Hetman. What's up?
Most of the major online music stores have been out of stock of Hetman valve oils. It has been that way for quite a while. There are smaller vendors on Amazon offering Hetman, but some of the prices are $15 to $25(!) per bottle. Anybody know what's going on?

The spam from Spain is plainly just a pain.
There. That's better.
