I absolutely hated the fighting in Trumpet Herald and in Trumpet Master.

Long-time members who acted like bullies year after year.

Moderators who let them get away with it.

Moderators banning the victims rather than the bullies.

But this new forum is a pleasant environment full of nice people.
      Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • RE: Does a large bore horn take more air?

So, if I buy a medium-bore and a large-bore from Kanstul, I would not find the large-bore harder on my endurance and other perimeters at the end of a night's gig? They would have the same result?

FWIW, the OP is looking for a case, not a gig bag, unless there's a semantic misunderstanding.

Vilgano - I think Eric Mayashiro has a similar story playing lead with Buddy Rich Big Band. Talk about a stress test! 😨

I've read a bunch of threads on this and they all devolve into other factors.

      Like I said. 🙄

    • Is Thomann-USA American-based?

      I don't really find a place where this fits, so . . .

Does Thomann-USA have a physical warehouse in the U.S.A. or is it just an administrative office that funnels orders, and the like, from Germany through the U.S.?

I'm asking because I've ordered several items from Thomann-USA and, if it was from wwbw.com, et al, it would have been here by now. But, if from Germany, it would take longer and the orders are on track.

      Thank you.

@L-A-Horn Well, I guess you could try one of those new Chinese horns in the marketplace, but I wouldn't expect much for $350. If that is all I had to spend I would try to find something in a used Olds.

Just to clarify, Taiwan is not China.

Tell Wayne... , and Dan.... . I think they know what they are doing. Be interesting to know why they used them I think.

Ummm.... Tobylou, they are in a recording studio. Read my post carefully. They are playing in this artificial environment of perfect sound with digital instruments on tune. So they use this to stay on tune.

I recorded a session with Kenny Drew Jr on a highly out of tune piano. His virtuosity to work around those off notes and the rest of the ensembles ability to hear and adjust ended up in a fabulous recording. If we had those tuners set to perfect, the recording would never have made it to production.

I've said this before, but I have a friend who is a long-term player with the Philadelphia Orchestra and I asked him, one time, how they play so well in tune with each other?
"We don't play well in tune with each other", he retorted. "We play out of tune with each other, well"

Then, why do some players "run out of air/gas" in large-bore horns quicker than in smaller-bore horns?

    • RE: Best Off-brand Trumpets

Having worked and lived in most of the northern hemisphere, I've seen tons of "off-brand" horns. Amazing what can be done on many of them. Especially if you can't even get others (i.e. Yamahas. Bachs, Olds, etc.). Sometimes, what you don't know, won't hurt you.

If you re-read my posts, I say that there's room for all of it. It's a matter of proportion, that's all.

And, frankly, there are times that I want to know something about a given horn, and it is sources like this that I go to for the information. The information is valuable.

    • RE: Kanstul -- Any News?

I'm wondering (jazz-wise), that, if you want a Committee sound (whatever that is), that all you need is a horn in the ballfield, the right mouthpiece and the right attitude and you can have it. I wonder if the sound-image in one's head is not given enough credit.

Or just giving it some time to readjust.
That happens in the sax world, often. Someone will switch horns and then comment that notes on horn X are out of whack, when they had adjusted to the notes on their previous horn that it became unconscious. You might just want to give it some more time and see if it doesn't "right" itself.

BTW, I've also never had a horn with a sharp "F", either.

I give up. You folks can interpret it any way you want . . or don't. I'm not going to live on this one thread. I was just giving input as to why, from my point of view, the site hasn't taken off. Just trying to be helpful.

    • RE: Does a large bore horn take more air?

@ROWUK That may be scientifically true, but don't most manufacturers make a difference in air/resistance in their construction based on bore size? I believe this is for for marketing and classification reasons?
