Man, how do they make that without its being labor-intensive?
If it's a military model, I would think they would have to keep the cost down.

Hi Dr-GO,
If praying is talking and meditation is listening, then I'm praying that some of our leaders will begin to listen with a little more warmth in their hearts.Let's see . . .talking - listening - talking - etc. Don't they exist, simultaneously?

RE: A little humour
Two blondes meet on opposite sides of a street.
The first blonde yells over, "Say, how do you get to the other side?"
"Well, duuuuh" the other one said. " You're already on it!" -
RE: no prayer requests allowed
Religious (or spiritual) matters are in the eye of the beholder and entirely subjective. Getting worked up over this is an exercise in futility.

Why are you taking this so seriously? A rule of thumb, I accepted year ago, that every act I didn't like acted, first and foremost, as a mirror to myself. This strikes me as fairly good natured comments.

RE: Music in the electronic age
I'm reminded of a saying a friend of mine used to live by, "What difference will it make to a naked lady riding on a white horse, fifty years from now?
(Great chart, BTW.)
Taking the thread title superficially, a favourite of mine:

Damned right. And for those of you who don't agree, may God strike you down!

RE: Rock, Pop, Classic 70's "Horn Bands" from back in the day?
I was in a carload of jazz music students from North Texas going to Ft. Worth to see Buddy Rich. Matrix was the warm-up band. It was so unique, we didn't even care about Buddy's band, once Matrix began playing. The night belonged to Matrix.
Probably my favourite cut:

Back to horn bands, I've been on a Seawind binge recently, a favorite band of mine. Jerry Hey and the boys with Pauline Wilson on vocals. I believe the horns were on several top albums like Stevie Wonder. T hey became pretty legendary. Anyway, enjoy.
BTW, I got married with their music. Ah, the free-wheeling 70s, LOL.

I ultimately moved to another instructor who kicked my butt remorselessly, and it was worth it!
YES! That's what it takes from an instructor. Starting a note, ending a note, dynamics, articulation, expression, tone, and the list goes on. It takes a person that will address these issues with the developing student. I'm not saying that a person needs to turn into Buddy Rich (whatta prick) but the instructor needs to be firm but supporting.
I had a trumpet teacher as a tween who signed his death warrant the day he came over for dinner and my father played the trumpet solo from An American in Paris and said that one of these days I'll play like that, and my teacher said it in all seriousness, "Gary plays like that now". I soon moved to another teacher.

Hi Kehaulani,
Yes, I'm going to see them in December. I'm taking my daughter who's a seriously killer trumpet player when it comes to Paganini and Bach but has very little background with combo stuff like BST, EWF, etc.. This will be good exposure for her.Man, she's going to love it and it may be an eye opener for her, too. You're doing her a great favor. Good on ye!

Hi Tobylou8,
I was reading up on Leonid and Friends and many sites call it a Russian band and some sites go as far as saying that they are from Moscow. With that said, I stand corrected. You were right. They are from Russia.
Regardless of where they are from, thank you for turning us on to them. I fortunately got tickets and will see them in December.
I wonder if Moscow Mitch will be on bass or keyboards (just kidding) we all know he does backup vocals for KissTheir first album was called Chicagovich!
You're going to see them this winter?! How cool. Share with us . . . and enjoy!

Don't forget to tell us how it plays, barliman. I've read appreciations that go from "mid-level" to "very good". I've always considered there should be a reason for the lower cost, although the similar valves are a good sign (as long as they're not the ones that didn't pass QC...).
Kind'a one-off comment - I had a friend at North Texas who played a Vito alto sax, student line. Pretty good bang for the buck.

RE: Jazz is still alive in New Orleans for the passing crowd
No offense intended, but some might want to plug up some holes in their musical education. A tuba is an integral part of a brass ensemble, which is what street jazz is made of.
