Well, as I read it, it's not a pursuit for perfection, rather an arbitrary time frame to just meet the challenge of doing what one can do within a timef frame; something to do for fun and challenge during this virus period to beat the boredom.

Music-Making as Time Travel
I put this in the Misc. category because it applies to all idioms. It's just a matter of application.
"Music-Making as Time Travel".
It really got me thinking. So much of making music is external. Yes, we strive for feelings "closer to the bone," but so often the externals get in the way. We think of sound, range, flexibility, endurance, all things, while necessary, but which take us further away from the internal. At best, we do a juggling act.
But is this how we began? I started by closing my eyes, even going into an unlit closet to listen to myself; to bring out the internal. I played to express what was inside of myself, to transport myself to another plane. "Music-Making as Time Travel".
As time went on, I got more aware of the technical side. Working on exercises, getting further away from the time travel and more into the practical now. One needs technique to enhance one's expression, but how often do we get caught into that at the expense of self-expression?
Have you found yourself, especially in this time of isolation, to just do the perfunctory or to take time to "time travel", to transport yourself to a different musical universe?

So . . how would you end it? That's always the challenge with these epics. They have foreshadowed many possibilities. Are there any examples from . . that would provide a precedent?
Don't make any more episodes.
When Coltrane told Miles that he just didn't know how to end a solo, Miles said, "Try taking the f***ing horn out of your mouth"!

Since communism and Marxism have taken such a strong foot here in the states I’ve been back to metal.
I don't know why you would say that. Two things.

In Vienna, where public conveniences are rare and far between, a man had an urge... no proper location anywhere . . Finally, in desperation, he entered a doctor's surgery.I can vouch for that, personally. Once, in Germany, I had to go and the nearest facility was a doctor's office. Getting met with quizzical looks on the faces of the staff as I walked by them, I went in like I owned the place, used their toilet and left. The staff looked quizzically at each other with a, "Who the hell was that guy?", look on their faces.

Well, you know-the pain from Spain falls mainly in the plain.

RE: Top 50 Jazz Trumpeters of all time?
I think these lists should be looked on as entertainment, not musicologically sound evaluations, and am a little surprised when they are taken seriously. Actually, I was introduced to two players I had not know but who are deserving of further investigation by me, Erik Truffaz and Arve Henriksen, both of whom wouldn't be on the list if Doc and others were listed.
Surveys like this have some value, i.e. I was introduced to two very nice players,

RE: pet peeves
One of my biggest language pet peeves, although I think it's a lost cause, is the use of "there's".
Ex: " There's three cars in the parking lot."
No, there ARE three cars. Either there IS one car in the parking or THERE ARE three cars. Three is plural.
Singular subject = singular verb. Plural subject = plural verb. English 101. -
RE: What are you listening to?
For sure purity, I default to Shelby Flint (Sings Folk).
Youtube VideoIf you go to Shelby Flint Sings Folk. full album, you get all tracks.

RE: pet peeves
Not a pet peeve, but with language ambiguities - my son studied one year in England. As part of his orientation program, he was given a three-page paper of words/phrases that mean different things. For instance "Bonnet, in American equals hat. Bonnet in England means a car's hood. Etc.
Knock me up, sometime?

RE: We're off to a good start
Well, everyone can find an internet home they are comfortable with. I've given this forum a good chance to show something substantial to benefit both inquirers and contributors, alike. But I haven't seen it raise any higher than a glorified lounge. I guess that's where it's going to lie.
To all those negative comments about Trumpet Herald, yes, it has it's "stars" and fair share of one-upmanship but that's real life. At least, in addition to gags and pretty pictures of gear, it gets around to having discussions on meaningful topics, from time to time.
I guess my main criticism of that site would be it's lack of meaty discussions on things musical, outside of gear. Sax on the Web, while also having it's fair share of gear stuff, gets down to the nitty gritty of musical tools and interpretations also.

If you know him and can communicate with him, I would suggest asking rowuk to participate. I miss his posts and, IMO, can do a lot of good.
