I’ve started practicing more. Working on those boring long tones that I’ve been ignoring for so long.
You could mix it up with "moving long tones", like Cicowitcz' "Long Tones".

I don't see the point. The stone pillars out front tell me when the Summer and Winter equinoxes are. Works for me.
Bobby Shew tweaked my horn and wrote me back that I needed to do more routine maintenance on it, LOL.
That's a touching story and a sweet letter. We need more of that.
Regarding Gallipoli - made me sick.
And regarding playing a bugle at 06:00 A.M - not before my morning espresso.

Well, then, I hate Spam and I fart in our general direction!

I'm already half baked, myself.

Hey, Jim, recording yourself is always a worthwhile thing to do. How you sound from behind the bell, compared to how you sound from in front of the bell can be very eye..opening.
An aside: I recorded myself, one night, playing one of Mozart's Horn Concertos (MM1). Didn't play Horn for several years after the playback.
You know, no offense, just an observation, but this Forum reads more like an expanded Lounge Forum. Will there be any discussions of music and trumpet techniques or just pretty gear photos and jokes? It's O.K. if most want to just chew the fat but I wonder if I should just move on? I miss rowuk and a few other posters. Again, no offense intended, just wondering if the forum is going to stay petty much to non-musical/trumpet (non-pertinent-gear) topics.
I heard/saw Bernstein's Mass today on PBS with Marin Alsop conducting, the NY Phil and a host of others. Thank God we've got something supporting the Arts in America.
I really could've used other production values, but it was at Ravinia and the cast was from there also, so you make do with what you've got. Nevertheless, it was world class and the Celebrant was outstanding, not to mention Bernstein's creativity.
This is Brazilian baritone Paulo Szot playing the Celebrant and singing Leonard Bernstein’s “A Simple Song from the Mass.”

@pss said in We're off to a good start: > Btw, I remember from TM that your Shew is a recent acquisition: how do you like it
Actually, my favourite horn is a Connstellation followed by a Benge, but the Shew is much lighter, especially when contrasted with my first choice. But the Shew is very easy to play, versatile and very light, which is paramount for me. In many ways, it's Committee like, just not quite as loose slotting. I'm very happy with the combination of the Shew and a Bush W2 mouthpiece.
Well, best of wishes, man. I hope all goes well and you can bounce back better than eve.
This is a joke, right?
First, who cares what happens to a bunch of rats? And, even so, they probably went out in better condition than they came in to this project.
Ref. In A Gadda Da Vida, it has a great guitar hook that got everybody's attention. Since the general public are musical meatheads, that's what probably stuck in their minds.
Regarding the performance itself, intonation is terrible. But then, after getting stoned out of your head, even the Stones would sound good.

@Kehaulani Did you require more than one throne?
Same Throne but multiple times. Thank God for Walgreen's Pharmacy.
Well, has it dawned on anyone that we've been talking about this for days and not one discussion on music?
No surprises there, George, thanks.

Even new methods can be made to look ancient
Word that. I was at a World's Exposition at the Mexican Pavilion going down a staircase and in front of me was this huge stone carved Mayan Wall Calendar. I was blown away. Feeling an urge, I looked around for security personnel. There were none and I just had to. I reached out and touched it. It was plastic.
