Beautiful looking horn, Doc. It looks a lot like my Olds Recording, even with those mother of pearl inlays on the first and second slides. What year is this Super and does it have the 3rd slide trigger ?

If there are any art students /members here they will get a great lesson from a master painter. Do you have any artist followers on you tube, Wayne ?

As to opinionated know-it-alls, they are not to be found exclusively on TH.

Oh, you are correct about that for sure.

She had quite a sense of humor. I miss her already.

RE: Sad News For Anglophiles
Although I am Canadian, I was never a great believer in royalty per se. But I was a young boy during the war years and I couldn't help but admire Princess Elizabeth who studied how to be a mechanic and drove trucks and other vehicles as a member of the military. And I have admired her through the years not just as a Queen who reigned for 70 years, but for the great lady she became during those years. She will be missed.

I certainly prefer TB over TH. Some of the know-it-alls there are just unsufferable.
The only problem I have with TB is the lack of discussions regarding the technical aspects of playing the trumpet. I have started posts in that category but I guess they weren't interesting enough because after a handful of replies the discussion just dies. So I have pretty much given up. There is a lot of knowledgeable members here who would better serve the board by starting discussions on technical topics.
Just my thoughts.

Fascinating indeed.

RE: Doc Severinsen’s “Final Concert”
Thanks, Steve, I was hoping to see something about that concert on youyube. The audio wasn't great but we could all see just how well Doc could still play.

RE: Difference between trumpet and cornet
Interesting conversation here, but all I know is that when someone like Bobby Hackett, who played both cornet and trumpet, recorded a song on either the trumpet or cornet, I'll be damned if I could tell which of the two he was playing.

Thanks for that. I love Richard Strauss.

RE: Amadeus Cafe
I've been to Toronto more times than I remember during my working years, but my traveling days are over. Still it's nice to see that at least one Canadian city was on his tour list.

Another neat story about one of my favorite trumpet players.I have only ever got to meet and talk to 2 famous pro players: Louis Armstrong and Al Hirt. I wish Wynton had been number 3. There are so many questions I would ask him.

RE: Symphonic Recording of the Week
Yes, sir, a beautiful performance by a beautiful lady. I have a bunch of her you tube performances saved that I go to on days when I want to listen to an exquisite performance. She is certainly the number one female trumpeter in the classical music field.

RE: James Morrison Trumpet Tutorial Series
Blow softly, increase air flow..what the hell, do whatever works. I do a combination of both and that works for me. But in my band I am rarely called upon to play anything higher than a B so I an not a high range player.

RE: James Morrison Trumpet Tutorial Series
@ssmith1226
Hi, Steve. When I started my comeback in 2016 after a 50 year hiatus it was that James Morrison Tutorial Series, along with my old Everette James ( Harry's Dad ) Trumpet Tutorial text book that got me back playing in the local Horizons in less than 6 months. I found the Morrison tutorials simply marvelous.

RE: AR Resonance Mouthpieces
@kehaulani said in AR Resonance Mouthpieces:
Ref, Jet Tones, there re the originals, then the Ratzenberger "originals", then the more modern ones.
Going backwards, the modern ones, as stated, are not like the originals. The Ratzenbergers, which are sought after, are actually not true "originals". Ratzenberger was a night club guy who was part owner in Jet Tone. The other guy was the true designer and after he broke up with Ratzenberger, Ratzenberger did a half-assed job with subsequent Jet Tones.
Legend Mouthpieces offer "original;" original Jet Tone replicas (unless you, like the good Dr. get one custom made).
p.s. George, do you use yours for combo playing or just for lead?
Kehaulani, I have never used AR mouthieces. I currently use an ACB TA1 for most of my playing but switch to a shallow cup Denis Wick 5X when playing a lot of higfher range band material. The 5X is way too small (16.00 ) for any kind of jazz or ballad solos, but I love how easy the 5X is on my chops and would love to use it for everything so I have a larger 16.50 Denis Wick 4X on order. We will see how that works.

How many is too many? I'm guessing more than 16.

As a medical professional I may suggest perhaps you need medical help.
Yes, and you can pay Doc so many horns per visit.

Thanks, Steve. I knew some things like this were part of Satchmo's life but not to this extent. Thanks for the article.
