Yeah, at times there it looked like he was keeping up with Harry.

RE: Jerry Lewis plays trumpet ?
In the video, Lewis produces and shows Harry a "Dizzy " style trumpet so that story is very likely true.

Jerry Lewis plays trumpet ?
Well, apparently so, though the quality of his play is questionable, but he does get to play with Harry James in this video from The Jerry Lewis TV Show on December 10, 1958. Pretty funny when Jerry challenges Harry on directing bands. Nice to see and hear, Harry having fun...

RE: Outstanding performance!
@dstpt
Oh, yes, he was indeed an inspiration. It was because of him that I did a comeback in 2016 at the age of 79, and that was after a 50 year hiatus from playing the horn.

RE: Olds Special or alternative advice
You really know your OLDS trumpets.

RE: AR Resonance Mouthpieces
Even though I used a Bach gold rimmed mp in my younger playing days, I am now finding age has made me a wet player and though I own and love my Denis Wick 5X gold mouthpiece, the lips seem to stick. I have to use a little Vaseline and am not so cool with that. So no, I am not a gold mp fan.

RE: Outstanding performance!
In 1974 I was 38 years old, a mere child...ha ha. But you know, I do remember that show. I rarely missed a Tonight Show and that was mainly because of my love of the Doc Severinsen Orchestra. And I tell you, Snookie Young was pretty damn cool on the trumpet, too. The whole orchestra was fantastic every night.

RE: YouTube Suggestion
Wowie ! A killer arrangement of one of my favorite ballads. Louis nails it , as usual, and so does the young man playing beside him. Love that orchestra. Thanks for the vid, my friend.

RE: Wynton Marsalis Interviews Veronica Swift
Thanks for that. Wynton is not only a great trumpet player but a super intelligent human being as well.

RE: Need Info re: Model Nrs of Antique Buescher True Tone Trumpets
The bottom number is the model number and the serial number is up higher on the valve casing. I own a 1942 Buescher 400 Truetone model 225 , which indicates it is a medium large bore.

RE: #AmandasBench
What an amazing looking horn. The detail in the engraving work is something to behold.

RE: Some good...."non-trumpeting" music :)
Starry, starry night has been a favorite of mine for many years. Don McLean's tribute to Vincent Van Gogh is beautiful but so very sad.

RE: A bittersweet parting
Good for you, Wayne. Here our band director buys various brass instruments that need work, fixes them up and donates them to the local school bands. I've donated a couple of mouthpieces but no trumpets so far, but that could happen down the road.

RE: >OLDS Recording...
Me. too. I favor my older horns above the newer ones. I especially love the 1942 Buescher and the 1952 Selmer Paris.

RE: >OLDS Recording...
That is great news. This will likely be your main axe.

RE: Louis Armstrong: the warmth and wit of the legendary jazz artist | The Independent
Thanks, Steve.
There have been several books written about Stachmo, and written by him, and there isn't many I haven't read with exception of the one this article is about. Don't know if it is till available but I am going to see if I can find it.

Thanks, tj, but right now my money has to go in another direction. My deck is falling apart...

RE: Artist on BOARD
@bigdub
That's interesting, Wayne. I also have been told something I thought was black was actually dark blue. So I often wonder what other colors I am seeing wrong. Orange, is a color I am unsure of at times.George

RE: >OLDS Recording...
Good for you. Congratulations. Olds in good condition from the 50's are hard to find. I own 2 Selmers from the 50's, a Getzen, Conn trumpet and a Conn cornet, and a great 1941 Buescher, but sadly, no Olds Recorder. Anything I considered was just too chancy for the price they wanted.
