@ROWUK your cautionary comment is well understood. My work out is prioritized for increasing chest volume (capacity) rather than strength as I agree that brut force is our enemy.

As for the abs exercise, that's more for toning my middle age spread. 🤗

@administrator said in The "Circle of Breath":

The first step is a prepared body. If our chest cavity is "collapsed", we have to inflate it with force. That is pretty stupid. When we are sitting or standing up straight but relaxed (yoga is VERY good for this), all we have to do is inhale. We can get a huge amount of air without having to pressurize the lungs by force. Learning to prepare the body for playing is easy with beginners and increasingly difficult for players with more experience as they have to break habits to make new ones!

A very important step. And taking the above step one step further, I have devoted an hour each morning (even before hitting the trumpet practice routine) to a series of bow flex exercises to help build intercostal muscles in my chest to more effectively increase my chest capacity.

The bow flex machine is ideal for chest wall development, as unlike free weights, the rods can be maneuvered over a variety of arches and planes the work both intercostals used for both inhalation and exhalation. I do 15 reps starting with 50 lb, then 60 lb, then 100 lb, then 160 lb finally 210 lbs for each set. There are 9 sets I have developed to my chest routine and another 7 set I have developed for abdominal muscles. This work out has really increased the efficiency of trumpet playing.

I always wanted to open my own pastry shop..... but I could never raise the dough!

I am a part owner of one... Was able to contribute enough bread to finalize the investment which turned out to be the icing on the cake. Stop by any time. It's just yeast of the flour shop.

Made a killing on donut holes, as I convinced the customers, the holes have no calories.

Please read my post carefully, I said Creole roots... Jazz roots...

I did read it carefully and you didn't say anything about any musical roots, just ethnic ones.

Nope. Just said roots. Please underline and send where I wrote ethics in the text. I believe that assumption is more a tattoo in your minds perspective. I used roots in its contextual relationship. Again, read my post carefully and my attachment. Maybe then you will understand as Winton does that your experience comes from your origins and not always from your genetics.

Has anyone experienced the Xstreme mouthpiece made by John Eth with the "Power Chamber."

      Regards, Stuart.

Stuart, I have a Harrelson 5 mm mouthpiece with rim and cup producing the V parameters of the Gustat Heim piece, but as you may well know, Harrelson's modular system also comes with an array of backbore sizes and I have a large one coming of the more traditional rim and cup. Man is that design flexible and energy saving!

@Dr GO, can you give me a source of Armstrong being Creole? I don't recall that and would love to fill in the gaps. Thanks.

Please read my post carefully, I said Creole roots... Jazz roots... playing with King Oliver, disciples of Jelly Role Motrin. While not defined as Creole by race, his roots are Creole sho nuf. (See attached)

I have a Vee cup experiment for a natural trumpet project. There are some historic originals that I want to try.

I can see this as a real virtue for the natural trumpet where the versatility of this structure would provide better control on this horn.

Would his Creole roots have been an influential factor in Louis choosing this horn.

@Dr-GO Dude. Sorry, but that comment is not OK, even if it was lighthearted. There have been times in my life when I made that kind of money and paid those kinds of taxes. (And I'm not an MD.)

First let me say to all that I did not mean to offend anyone. This has been a painful few years for me as my employer tried to fire me after I reported a wrongful death to an accrediting body that my employer tried to cover up. A judgment was made in my favor which created my tax burden for this year. Is the winning worth it? Being bullied by my employer for the many years this case was in the courts was a pain I would never wish on anyone. But exposing and assisting that one patient that was irreversibly harmed was well worth the effort. Fortunately for the years that follow, my tax burden will fall back to the realm of the mortal world. Again, so sorry for creating any anger for my post.

I am not sure if it is a sound difference verses the ability more to sculpture the texture of the sound that is produced with a V barrel. I love my V barrel Kenstal G2 (Miles Davis Heim copy) as it really allows flexibility to "play with the air" as it leaves my oral cavity to then swirl into the V cup. The note sounds with stability, but with the V cup you can really dress that sound up with amazing versatility.
