    • RE: My collection...

My collection is unchanged, non sold, I still own them. My history will be chronological and the reason for their purchase:

Olds Ambassador - Bought by my parents when I decided to join my public school band program
Olds Recording (Fullerton Manufacture) - Bought by my parents as I continued public school experience into high school

Getzen 4 valve Eterna Flugelhorn - Self Purchased for a college rock band inspired by Rick Braun

Many years then pass until I become a TrumpetMasters member and was intrigued by attending a Trumpet Hang with another TM member at which time I played and fell in love with these horns:

Martin Committee - Now my main small group horn
Kenstul 4 valve 1526 - Now my main flugelhorn for both small group and big band

Then by concern of my horns being confiscated by security I purchased it assuming I could afford loosing it:

Allora Pocket Trumpet - Was confiscated 3x by Saudi Airport security, and got it returned each time after pleading with Saudi security supervisors.

Then my impulse buying spree "got to have it" due to discussions by TM Members identified in convincing me I had to have this horn:
Olds Super Recording - ANA Mandez and was my main big band horn until I experienced the Getzen Power Bore
Getzen Power Bore - Cyber_Shake and became my main big band horn until my Harrelson arrived 4 years after placing that order

Olds Recording (LA Manufacture) - Sounds7 to help support a cause requiring him to sell off instruments
Harrelson Summit - Sounds7 and Now my main big band horn

I am going to bring it to Jonathan Ashcraft, my brass repair guy, who will surely know how to resolve it. He is a great repair guy, a regular artist, and he can play very well too.

How is he at wiring trumpets for light bulb insertion?

...at my Mom's house in Kansas City for the holidays. (She's 99.) I leave my old Getzen Severinsen here at Mom's house and use it for practice when I am here. Bach Strad is my daily driver, but every time I come to Mom's and play the old Severinsen for a few days, I remember how good those Getzen valves are and how facile that old thing feels.

      Getzen valves are the best!

      @bigdub

If worse comes to worse, Wayne, you are such a realist artist that you ciould just paint yourself a new 3rd valve...😁

And if in oils, the valve is slick for a lifetime of playing!

I have a Bach Tr300 that is in fine condition but is never used except for a back up in emergencies.
So recently I took it out to just give it a check and found that the third valve stops the air when not depressed. This has never happened to this trumpet or any other for that matter. Ever.
Yes, I did check the alignment twice, thrice, maybe fourteen times or so, in case you were thinking of asking.
Any idea what I might check to correct this? It is a decent back up horn, so I want to keep it functional.
      Thanks.

Sounds like you may have a back up for a lamp now.

@j-jericho US, anyway. Could not be anywhere else.

      Not even Switzerland?
Seems like they would qualify, somewhat.

I believe their cars only work in neutral.... but if pushed downhill, should get some speed. That would not be too safe in hearing the car coming though since what's a Matterhorn can be an issue.

@dr-go Need dirty contacts to pull Green Eyed Lady off. You can pull it off because you can count me as a dirty contact.

Green Eyed Lady works by hitting the off switch then the start button before the organ totally shuts down. The Hammond B3 is an amazing instrument and can perform creative adaptations even beyond the Leslie control switch.

Just heard this Christmas album by the Four Freshman and was blown away by the trumpet soling and tone and even more blown when I found out it was one of the Four Freshman vocalists, Curtis Calderon. Solo starts at 1:05. Very nice!

    • RE: In search of “my horn.”

Interesting perspective that "my horn" is really someone else's horn that the listener tends to admire. That was what roped me into the Getzen 4-valve Etena. Was a real fan of Rick Braun, and at the time I was in the market for a flugelhorn, that is the horn I chose and he is the reason why. However, I sound like me on it, not like Rick Braun, and I am OK with that.

...I have my Benge which works very well in situations which require more consistent ensemble sound, and I play a Monette Prana B6S1 mouthpiece.

      Suggestions?

TJ, sounds like you answered your own question. The Benge is you!

Since there vocalist is from Chicago, my guess is Chicago, looking toward the West Coast of Lake Michigan.
