I thought this was such an amazing story of a 12 year old that has serenaded many health care workers and patients during the pandemic, and find it amazingly gratifying that he has been given the chance to represent trumpet players in the inauguration.

@Dr-GO On first read, I, too, wondered what the 'sky' meant. A dialect perhaps? But then, being raised with snow, I realised sky meant 'ski'. I forget what term the psych majors use to describe the phenomenon when people see something out of context but place it in proper context, or vice versa.
For me it's called a typo and bad eye sight. To BigDub it's a career opportunity as personal editor.

For the extra $247 I say: Go for the Credit! Who knows, with my BS, MS, PhD and MD, maybe with that extra credit, I can actually do something with my life!

RE: Artist on BOARD
Wayne, maybe GeorgeB will take the bait and be another one of you happy customers... I know I am!

I actually like playing Strangers In The Night, but I skip the Dooby dooby dooo at the end.
I sing Strangers In The Night if I first partake of some Dobby dooby dooos just prior to said song breakout...
This is of course legal in Colorado... and of more recent, New Jersey, as BigDub probably knows.... and perhaps, we may see more abstract art offerings from BigDub as a result, yes?

RE: Well, old age has finally caught up with me
@ButchA said in Well, old age has finally caught up with me:
I haven't been active on this forum as much as I used to... I just read through this posting and hope and pray that you'll be okay and can get back into playing. There is no such thing as "age catching up". I always joke around with age numbers to take away any worry. If you are 83, then always think that you are 38 and you can still do everything you did at 38! On the other hand, I am 59, so in that case you just add the two numbers... 5+9=14. Okay, so I could be a 14 year old kid, playing trumpet in middle school!
I hope everyone is doing well during this crazy COVID-19 stuff. I haven't been driving my school bus since this all happened, back in March! Everything is shutdown. The Shriners Band is shutdown, the annual Oktoberfest is already canceled, etc...
George, I just wish you the best and hope you can regain your health!
Stay safe, everyone!
Butch... sounds like particularly tough times for you as well. May you be well for sure!
What is scary for me as I am sending more and more patients in for Covid testing. Until a couple weeks ago about 3 a week, in the past couple weeks that has increased to 3 a day. I can really feel the rise in Ohio daily cases. My wife is a nurse at our largest hospital and they went from one dedicated Covid floor two weeks ago to now 3 floors two weeks ago. She has 3x been pulled from her MedSurg floor to float to the Covid floors. Fortunately there are no plenty of equipment for her to wear, but her anxiety level is way up lately.

RE: Expressionism on trumpet
Anything Till Bronner is expressionism on trumpet. He has a very airy quality to his sound and does so with light textures yet able to keep ultimate control. Here is an example of a song he wrote, but recorded by the amazing jazz vocalist Mark Murphey. Listen not only to Till's introduction but also how he converses with Mark Murphey oh so subtly. Expressionism at it's finest:

@dr-go Thank you!
You are welcome. Till Bronner is a hidden gem here in the USA. He is very well known in Germany and is the top rated jazz musician in Germany. He rarely comes to the USA, mostly to record, but I had the chance to hear him in concert when he was giving a clinic at the International Trumpet Guild in Columbus OH (down the road from me). I attended his clinic as well. Just amazing. He invited me on stage and I had the amazing honor of playing several tunes with him, and at one time, trading 8's!. He has just as warm of a personality as his trumpet sound.
Here is a pic from the clinic. Till is the one under the red arrow, I am under the blue:

Yeah, none of those gadgets for me. I know a lot a people will disagree with me, but I don't even buzz. I found the time is better spent with the horn on my face.
Always love GeorgeB comments as we almost always agree. Once again, his advice is well served. I find buzzing adds nothing when you have a trumpet available to put your mouthpiece on.
THE ONLY TIMES I buzz is when I need to practice an have no trumpet available, such as on a Disney Cruise where they will confiscate your instrument if you bring it on board.

I always wanted to open my own pastry shop..... but I could never raise the dough!
I am a part owner of one... Was able to contribute enough bread to finalize the investment which turned out to be the icing on the cake. Stop by any time. It's just yeast of the flour shop.
Made a killing on donut holes, as I convinced the customers, the holes have no calories.

,,,I feel like I could run on a platform of making the trumpet our official national instrument, making it illegal to play viola in public, and maybe build National Mouthpiece Safari Parks. These items definitely get my vote!
