Why do the women in the flute section have to were form fitting, fluffy sweaters? It's less a playing than a pet peeve.

As for the flugelhorn question Jim, I use it for outdoor concerts as it too has a large bore and projects well. I also use it for soft rock and recording more up beat ballads.

Here is a link to a recording I made using the Getzen Eterna on an up beat ballad:

Switching between 3 and 4 valves is easy as your ears almost guide you into knowing when you will need that quarter tone adjustment and using it to bridge into the pedal tones just feels so natural with 4 valves.

Wow. Things are beginning to open up for me. In just a week time I have 12 performances booked going into this year. Hope they keep coming in fast and numerous. Hopefully others here are finding the world to music is slowly opening up!

    • RE: What Are You Doing New Years, New Years Eve

Wow. What an experience last night (this morning) was. We played a New Years party with a 1920's "Roaring 20's" theme. The place was PACKED! And everyone, I mean everyone was wearing 1920's attire. Men in tuxes with wing top shoes, women in flapper dresses. And our band played nearly the entire time from 9 pm to 1 am, with just one half hour break for two burlesque performances by two very talented women.

But the most memorable time, was during my solo through Mack the Knife, a very appreciative lady dressed in a black sequenced flapper dress with her hair coiled in golden locks started fingering trumpet valve flurries against her thumb. While I was playing my solo, I signaled to her with my index finger to come toward me. As she came toward me she kept her trumpet air solo going to where I bet over to meet her reach, then released my fingers so that her fingers could play my valves. Oh my God! I was able to direct the proper air support to make her fingerings sound to the changes the rhythm section was providing. She was ecstatic, I was mesmerized with the combined partnership producing an amazing improve, and the crowd went simply wild.

Never done ANYTHING like that before, but if any of you are looking for a REAL crowd pleaser, this is it,

Unfortunately I had to turn on administrative approval for new accounts. I hate spam.

But the efforts are appreciated, as I believe we will have a better product on TB.

Also, Flugelgirl on this site can also connect you with a good buy on a good starter horn, as she has familiarity with a variety of brands and as a technician, will know the quality of these horns literally, inside and out.

    • RE: Pneumonia - how long to pause?

By the way, playing your trumpet as much as possible is advised. Playing will increase positive end expiration pressure (PEEP), which will open more airways helping to ease the breathlessness feeling.

When I was hospitalized a few years back, I had my pocket trumpet with me and while playing, my pulse ox readings increased by 6%. So playing the trumpet 🎺 is essential to a more speedy recovery.

I highly recommend Tom. I have given him lots of work sending several of his kids to college don't ya know. He is the man that does Harrelson's Midnight Summit trumpets. Here is his website link:

    • RE: Under the radar

The Olds Ambassador. While touted as a beginners horn, it was used by my favorite trumpet player, Lee Morgan on his Cornbread album. Used also by many other professionals (Freddie Hubbard), so while some may critique it as a beginner model, it plays with precision and sound of vintage horns. In fact, of the 10 horns I own, all of the remainder of which are definitely not beginner horns, I rate my Ambassador as number 3, that follows after my Martin Committee and Harrelson Summit.
