A lot of people make fun of the state I live in. People from 49 states, to be exact….but recently I found out that New Jersey just missed making one of the top 12 states in the US. Here is proof.

How easy was it to get those descriptions off the nice hardwood floor?
Were they permanent or eraseable? -

You can all rest assured now, I'm fine. -
RE: Is there such a thing as a “natural player”?
@trumpetb said in Is there such a thing as a “natural player”?:
I have done many things in my life and in many of them I have been told I am a natural. Mostly that happens after many years of very hard work.
Let us assume they are right and I am a natural trumpet player.
I was not a natural trumpet player at first and for a very long time. It only took 8 hours a day of constant practice every single day for around 10 years to finally become a natural. That is only about 30,000 hours hard graft.
Louis Armstrong was also I believe called a natural, he practiced for 7 years.
More than likely he practiced for 12 hours a day as it was a passion with him. That is also around 30.000 hours of hard graft.
We both share 30,000 hours of hard graft Louis and I.
I have been called a natural in many other activities, rifle shooting, pistol shooting, golfing, archery, driving.
It is funny how I always became a natural after devoting many years of very hard work (that nobody noticed).
I think it takes a lot of unnaturally hard work before you can legitimately be a natural.
I find it insulting to be called a natural to be honest it ignores all of the immense effort that it takes and has been expended to be able to finally make everything appear to be totally effortless and natural.
So my answer is, No there are no naturals there are people who put in immense efforts to be become good enough for people to then think they are naturals
People will say that when they really like your stuff. It’s easier and still a nice thing to say, by the way, than, “you sure put in thousands of hours of hard work to achieve this level of competence”. I get it with my artwork, “such a talent” they say, “I can’t even draw a circle or a straight line”. Neither can I. That’s why they make compasses and straight edges. And yes, I am grateful to get nice compliments like that, and take it for what they intended it to be. But I have done it for over fifty years, honed the talent that I had to start with. Not just woke up one day at age 7 and started painting masterpieces. I still don’t think I paint masterpieces, or play them either, but that’s why I keep trying.

Can't for the life of me figure out why this USED Bach Mt Vernon 3c Mouthpiece hasn’t been snatched up yet. Free shipping, too. And notice you can get a 1 yr protection plan for only $59.99. We all know how a mouthpiece can cost lots for repairs and upkeep.

MORAL of the story is, don’t wait too long between cleanings.
...or don't eat a three layer hoagie and downing it with a pint of beer before going to bed at night!
Good to know. I'll make a note of that. Should I not play my trumpet right after such a snack, either?

RE: A little humour
Let me start by saying, this was an actual real dream I had. Fair warning, if you don’t want to go too far inside my subconscious, then stop reading this right now! Ok, you have been warned, so here goes:
In my dream, it starts rather realistically, I am cleaning my trumpet.
I get to the valves and there is quite a bit of scale and some kind of goopy sludge. Gradually, or maybe quickly, this ooze begins to morph into caterpillar like organisms, then more hair grows on them. I am not freaked out at all, since it all is seeming quite normal ( since it is a dream, after all ). Now I dispose of all but one of these organisms. This one is the cutest of them all. Now it has morphed into a meatball sized hedgehog like thing, but suddenly I am at a choir practice, letting several of the people hold and play with my little hedgehog like thing.
I had to take it back, but it was not done morphing. Now it’s getting bigger and bigger and now is the size of a Norwegian Coon cat. Seems, in fact, that it IS actually a Norwegian Coon cat. Reddish color. It ended with him following me around wherever I went, right Rusty?MORAL of the story is, don’t wait too long between cleanings.

I finished a set at the Blue Wisp Jazz Club in Cincinnati, and the owner came over to me and said "You sound like Clifford Brown reincarnated".
I sound like Buster Brown.
And some of us may sound like Charlie Brown…….’s teacher

RE: Question?
I watched that Abbott and Costello routine, being shown on a loop at the baseball hall of fame about 20 times in a row before my son dragged me away. I did you, I had already seen it plenty of times beforehand. I tried to find a weakness in it, a slight mistimed line, a stammer, a stutter, but alas, nothing. Perfection.

RE: Why are so many threads just getting locked down?
@barliman2001 said in Why are so many threads just getting locked down?:
@rowuk Dear Robin, if you look closely, you will find that in all cases of locked threads, these were inactive for more than three years - no replies or comments during that period, thus cluttering up the site. But I don't like deleting threads - you never know when the content might come in handy. Thus, the contents are still available; and if someone has something to say about the topic, they are welcome to tell the admin or one of the mods to please open the thread again, or open a new one.
Why the "for obvious reasons"? Well, there are so many of these dormant threads that it gets extremely tedious writing an individual explanation. Only yesterday, I locked down a whopping 39 threads. The "locked" sign is just meant as a polite warning "old content, nothing new here."
Why the need to lock something that nobody goes into? Seems unnecessary doesn’t it?
If you drive a 1974 Yugo you don’t need to lock it when you park it. Guess you can even leave the keys in the ignition too, for that matter. -
RE: Artist on BOARD
I think I am doing something wrong. This is hanging in the Princeton University Art Museum. None of mine have shown up there, or any other museum, yet.
Not making this up. It’s about 5’x5’. Very subtle shades of black…..but not obvious…
