At St. John’s Academy in Shawnigan Lake, British Columbia, a black bear has been scaring students with raids on the waste bins.

Until a music teacher came out and scared it off with a trombone.

Bears are not the only species reported to have run for their lives from trombones. Just saying.

Are you suggesting humans can't bear them either?

What if the teacher had used an Olds trombone?

I might mention that the worse the player, the more success can be expected in removing bears.
I also might not ever told anyone here, I started on trombone in 4th grade. Since I was small for my age, though, not all the slide positions were available to my very short arms.

Our community band did a lot of outdoor night concerts at a train station. No trains stopped there anymore, but many freight trains would randomly pass. Our trombone section picked out the notes for a perfect train whistle whenever one was coming. It was the best thing they ever did. More or less.
