      @Dr-GO Nice solo, thank you

Thanks. The choice was to do it on the trumpet or my large bore flugel, and I chose to use the flugel to soften the upper range as I felt it fit more the mood of the song.

Thanks again. When you have Kenny Drew Jr as the piano player pumping out the chords behind you, it only takes you to higher places!

I really like the look and sound of the Getzen 4 valve (Freddie Hubbard's longtime favourite flugel)!

I like the blend in your recording and the solo is very nice! Hope to hear more from you!

My flugel Days started in high school when I convinced my parents I needed one. I tried a Getzen 4-valve, an Olds Clark Terry, but the winner was a new Couesnon 140 at Ray Lammers Music in Cincinnati. I played it from 1979-2005. Great sound... lousy build quality and suspect intonation.

I commissioned Lawler to make me one, but I never liked it. Great sound and intonation, but it closed off at A above the staff, and after trying different MPs with the same issue, it was traded for a Weril Regium that I played at Miles Ahead Music in Louisville. My college buddy, Miles Davis (really! But not ‘that’ Miles) has a nice store worth checking out. It was a solid player, but I kept looking for a better axe. Enter the CarolBrass flugel! It looked amazing, and played easily, but the tone was muddy.

Then at the 2015 ITG I played every flugel I could find. Kept returning to the ACB room to play this one horn five different times during the day. It was an Adams F1 with a red brass bell that had a silver flair. I was stunned how nicely it played. I could not leave ITG without it!

My favorite MP is a Curry. I play the deepest one and the next to deepest one he makes. They have a great sound. I played more shallow ones in the past, but they sound too trumpety.

@Dr-GO . Wow! I had no idea that horn had come out. I have a 1525 customize with the 1025 slide trigger and regular spit valves rather than amatos. I just read in an ad on TH that Kanstul has gone out of business. Is that true?

                        Indeed, it is true.

I’d be willing to bet that a handful of dealers have some on hand though.

My Flugelhorn is giving me headaches. The first brace nearest the receiver keeps coming detached from the bell. A tech has soldered it twice but it still keeps breaking loose. I like the horn but it's pissing me off to the point that I don't want to use it. Other than me drinking a lot to forget about it, how can this be fixed?
                          Thanks

Now that's a cool looking horn. Kinda looks like an espresso machine that did the naughty with a flugelhorn.
I guess what happened in Vegas turned out to be a hot looking flugelhorn nine months down the road.

@Dr-Mark sounds like the brace needs to be bent to fit the tubing - if the tubing is pushed to the brace instead of the brace fit to the tubing the pressure can pull them apart again. It also sounds like you may need to find a better tech, but that depends on your other experience with this tech, I guess.

@Kujo20 I've had the 725, 1025 and now the 1525. I also used to have the copper signature trumpet. Sort of gone back to Getzen now, but no plans for anymore flugels. I'm thinking of selling my 1525 because I rarely play it anymore. My favorite horn for past few years has been my Getzen 3850 custom cornet in copper. I really like the Getzen valve action. Sorry, not trying to hijack this thread.

If you’re referring to my horn, it was handmade by George Schlub (Schlub Brass Works).

Completely custom made as all his horns are.

It is easy to really “sing” on this horn. Not stuffy, trumpety, or squirrelly...just a clear, ringing flugelhorn sound. I find it easy to play jazz ballads, symphonic, chamber,...pretty much everything you would want a flugelhorn to do!

George’s craftsmanship is top notch and I’ve never heard a less than raving review from someone that has owned or played one of his instruments.

Thank you. Not only is the workmanship outstanding, I'll bet the price is, as well. 😁
