I understand that TB is operating at a slight deficit; is there a way that members can voluntarily help with expenses?

There might be a way. I will look into options.

@Shifty it does, but minimally. I'll create a Patreon account. If we get enough donates I can even cut the ads altogether. Doesn't need to make a profit. Just needs to cover the server costs.

I don’t know how all of that stuff works... but what about getting sponsors that are related to the forum subject?

Those sponsors could get ads or a plug for their products and shops and TB gets some costs covered...? Ads for trumpets/brass on a trumpet forum would probably get more hits than other websites.

There’s no shortage of manufacturers and shops and they all already do some sort of advertising or marketing.

Just the beginning of an idea...?

Guys, no offense intended, but I think this forum has to elevate itself a little bit above just jokes and pretty pictures before it would be taken seriously enough to justify outside financial support.

If ads are added as a revenue source it doesn't matter what the forum subjects are so much as how many hit the ads. Each time somebody hits an advertisement a small amount of money...like a cent or two is added to the site owners account. I never did that with my sites since that wasn't the way I wanted to go. Nothing wrong with it at all though. The cost of the site space can vary according to where it is located. I used a Go Daddy site space for a few years until I got some free server space from close relative in the computer programming business. Go Daddy wasn't very expensive but had lots of possible corruption problems as new sites were added to various slots in Go Daddy space.

So you're saying there is no market for recreational trumpeters? I would disagree. Many makers of trumpet stuff, I won't name names because I don't want to start and brand war, cater to the "recreational" player. I liken it fishing. I was given 100's of fishing lures of every type imaginable by a friend. I asked him which ones worked. He wryly smiled and said, "They all worked". I said, "Really"? "I bought them didn't I", was his response?
This site is still new and growing and is a welcome relief over the stodginess of oTHer trumpet related sites.

Kehaulani is correct. Realize that trumpetherald doesn't even do this. They have ~40,000 registered users. We have 165. There isn't really a market here, I'm afraid.

At the moment, we're just a bunch of happy campers who've found a replacement for our beloved TM (RIP). So none of us is asking how to blow double C's in a week or if a new mouthpiece is the solution to our woes (since we have none, or at least few). It will take time for new folks who do have questions or want to discuss serious issues to find us -- it would help if a Google search for "Trumpet forums" would point to TB. At this point we don't appear in the search results at all.

I dunno. It has been a smooth and peaceful start, with no trolls or jerks that I've seen here so far, and I think we are building a strong community, albeit slowly.

I agree that the transition has been smooth. But, if I were an advertiser, I would be looking to advertise to potential buyers. What are we tuned in to so far that would attract such an advertiser?
