      @Kehaulani-0

Yes I could have said that better - my concern is for legitimate ethical members of the band who might want to teach, and that his reputation might cast a shadow on them - I was hoping someone in the band would alert leadership and that they would pull him aside and relate our concerns to him

I'm glad to learn he is not really part of the official band - Another sign that his ethics don't match with mine - here is what is on his website:

"He is a professional trumpet player and is a member of the United States Army Band."

      Peace

@Newell-Post Hey! Post a picture of the lamp! May be a candidate for the sequel to A Christmas Story, replacing the leg lamp!

    • RE: Proper Embouchure?

Congratulations on coming back after 55 years if I am interpreting that correctly

Everyone's teeth, jaw and lip structures are different, so I would guess there is not a method that works for everyone

I'm very pragmatic - use what works for you after trying different things. The proof is in the sound - stick with one mid-range note and experiment. Try to find the setting which gives you the sound you like best.

If you can find a setting that gives you a good sound and also seems relaxed to you, you are on the right track

I think people with a thicker lower lip and thinner lower lip tend to make good sounds more easily, but there are hundreds of pros with all kinds of lip structures

I have Musicians Focal Dystonia, and after 40 years of great jazz experiences, nationally and internationally, I cant make a good sound anymore at all - sure miss it, and being part of this discussion board is emotionally healing for me - no worries, tho, the Lord allowed me to experience wonderful things and relationships thaks to the beloved horn - thanx, all

@EZ_Toner a bigger concern would be if liquids flow uphill at your house 🙂

    • RE: Greasy Valve Stem Felts

I have this problem with some horns - have always thought the valve movements upward against the casings pushes oil upward and that some horns dont seal the top off very well

Happens mostly on my less expensive flueglehorn but I love it too much to toss it for that reason LOL

    • RE: Matt Brockman scam artist

The prob here is that he is not doing anything illegal that I can see - just horribly rude, deceptive and unethical, preying upon honest people who simply want to improve.

Does anyone know someone with the Army Band? This reflects very poorly on the Band as well as other legit teachers in the band who are looking for students

On the other end of extremes, I have had wonderful experiences with Charlie Porter online - compassionate, listens, kind and very effective for me - the cost is much more reasonable

      God bless us, everyone

that does it - I'm going to report this to the Better Business Bureau - all others are welcome to do the same - the more, the merrier

I sent a rather scathing review to the Better Business Bureau - will report any activity - God bless you all

    • RE: Vuvuzela

Ah yes - we served as missionaries in Honduras for 12 years and there is no sound quite like 40,000 people in the national stadium with what sounds like 40,001 vuvuzuelas on hand. I have a couple in our house and my granddaughters love making us jump when they give one a blast.

On a similar 'note', I have seen one single conch shell silence 40,000 people in that same stadium - ¡asombroso!
