I only know of Carling Black Label beer. It's not a valve oil, but if you consume enough when playing, you will be less concerned as to the action the valves.
Great. Now I have that jingle stuck in my head.

Like any genre of music, jazz is a huge umbrella: big band, small group, dixieland, swing, bop, smooth, modal, fusion, hornband rock...
My personal opinion (and I'll probably get fragged for this) is that we have intellectualized jazz to a level that the majority of people can't understand what we are doing.
We are an interesting bunch of people. We don't like it when people don't understand our music and don't buy it, but we denigrate people who play simpler jazz that people do buy.
I've been working on transcribing solos from Clark Terry's "Duke With A Difference" album.
I don't think the 40b is really bright. I can play it and make it blend. But it is definitely the loudest horn I've ever played. I remember playing a rock gig and I could hear my live sound bounce back off the rear wall louder than the monitors.
I guess it may be not the mark of a real pro player, but I am pretty up after any gig that goes well. It helps if I hang with a friend or two afterwards. Hit the Waffle House or something.
I guess if I was playing 5 nights a week it would be different.
My Doc Severinsen Getzen from the 1980s was really bright.
I may be misunderstanding this post. If you want us to visit your site, a link would help a lot.
I bought a bunch of horns trying to find "the one" since I had been playing my Getzen 900H since Jr. high school. There were many that were close, including a first run Severinsen that is a very fine player and a Holton ST-302 that has a big sound but just isn't quite there for me. I've even played a high dollar horn, it was nice, but that's all. The "one" that supplanted my 900H was another 900H only in large bore. If you can make an offer with a price that is more to your liking, I'd go for it. You can't have too many horns and it is nice to pull them out for others to play and watch them drool!
I just bought a 900H large bore from Ivan. It is one sweet horn. But it can't beat my Super Recording out of first chair.
Not from back in the day, but a recent horn band called The Strike. The song is "Atom Bomb". Nice horn feature on the end of the tune from about 3:20 to the end.
I think Maurice Andre is a robot. I saw him years ago. He played an incredibly strenuous program, then came back out for encore after encore. The man is a machine. Seems like he never tires.
Aha! I didn't see that as a link.
I had a C7 come through my shop. It played beautifully.
I like to listen to recordings of the middle school bands that I taught playing Christmas music this time of year. But I don't feel guilty about it.
You're getting a nice sound. I bet you will get a lot of your chops back and maybe more. Good luck!
