      It's just made that way.

I don't mean this flippant, but the whys are just things I don't care about. Just whether it does or doesn't.

The physics and whether or not you personally need it or not aside, it is interesting that both Maynard and Al Hirt lip the notes rather than using the slide.

    • RE: Question on Caruso 6 notes

Julie Landsman says the Six-Note-Exercise is the first exercise she plays in the day. Landsman was a student of Caruso, is the Principal horn player with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra for the last 25 years, and teaches at Juilliard. You don't get any better than she.

BTW, don't forget to count in tempo.

The Committee DOES NOT NEED an adjustable third-valve slide.

      Tasty, Dr GO.

    • RE: Third valve

To your second question, Committees don't require the third valve slide. Also, on fast moving notes on standard horns, I just lip the D and Db down, while on more drawn out notes, I might use the slide.

Let's see. The thread topic is Hello! Welcome to TB, who are you? and, on a long page full of posts, not one (including myself) dealing with welcoming new members.

My read of the introductory post is it's not just about new members but also about seasoned members as well. Please read the first post closely.

I did read the post. My point is not about who can share background info. It is about a whole page of superfluous comments. Sometimes it's a matter of knowing how much is too much and showing some restraint.

I forgot that 49 States are in agreement on one thing: all 49 hate New Jersey.

Did I miss something in the text? There are 50 States.

    • RE: Playing risks in Covid-time

And for the musicians' sake, rubbing elbows with audience members, even though you may have taken all precautions on stage, then puts you at greater risk off-stage. Point is that, even though you may take precautions on stage, as soon as you socialise with others at the venue, all bets are off.

But isn't the NIH a government agency under the Executive? Not quibbling or arguing, just want clarification.

Doesn't Fauci "serve at the pleasure of the President"?

No, he does what is right...

What's that supposed to mean? Do you mean that he can't be fired by the President?
