    • RE: Building and Repairing

In my experience, there have always been individuals who have been there to offer help, when needed. But you have to seek them out. Additionally, the internet, with YouTube, forums, etc., is a cornucopia of information. One does have to be very careful, however, as it's full of self-appointed experts.

Regarding teachers, technicians etc. keeping some info close to the chest, they've spent years, sometimes lifetimes, acquiring their knowledge. I wouldn't expect them to give the knowledge away for free.

But back to the access of free knowledge, it's never been better. I may have misunderstood the intent of this post's main points but as I understand it, I can't see where the problem exists. Not being negative, I'm just possibly missing the purpose of the post.

Have you run a snake through the third valve slide to make sure there's no obstruction?

Happy Holiday Season to all my friends of various faiths (or none).
May you find tranquility at this season.

And if you don't have a round, tapered punch, any repair tech can fix it in a moment, probably, at minimum cost and probably while you wait. Only takes a moment.

    • RE: Spitballs

I used them and they got stuck and I had to, then, use a snake to get the balls out.

The good news is that, after that annoyance, they worked.
The bad news was that they didn't work as advertised.

I never swabbed my horns, previously, and never had a problem. Others had no problem using the spit balls but did have a problem with red rot.

That is all to say, I guess, that it depends on you, your body chemistry and how patient you are. I use Tim Wendt's Lead Pipe Swab and leave it at that. https://www.trumpetherald.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=114984

@barliman2001 Yes, it did, and it produces the same reaction in those familiar with Communism. Music is a powerful form of communication, sometimes deeper than words alone.

In Germany, I had a girlfriend who is Russian, and who returned very year to Mother Russia. I bought her a music box one Christmas of the "Internationale". Her reaction was very moving. Music can have ways of touching people nothing else can.

Since communism and Marxism have taken such a strong foot here in the states I’ve been back to metal.

I don't know why you would say that. Two things.

      1. Ever hear of the Dust Bowl Days or the 60s?
      2. This is a politics free zone.

    • RE: In search of “my horn.”

Have you tried the Bach 190-37? The sound is very rich, and it can blend with just about anything. It's a little heavier than a Severinsen or Schilke but not like some of the super-expensive Mega Horns. Certainly doesn't have a bright, brassy sound.

    • RE: Earth, Wind & Fire -- Fan Thread

"September" is one of my all-time feel-good songs.

For the musical historians (harrumph) out there, the soundtrack to the Blaxploitation film "Sweet Sweetback's Badasssss Song" was E,W&F before they were E,W&F. Very raw.

    • RE: Bruno Tilz mouthpieces

I believe Tilz are a popular and quality European mouthpiece, not only for modern trumpets but for historical horns and other trumpet-like horns. Till Bonner used to play one.

I had a friend who was a hard-core yogi. Only ate a handful of nuts a day. Lived in a tee-pee. Had only one material passion. His Indian motorcycle. 😁
