@bigdub
That was just some random thinking, Wayne. To do what I was talking about would take a huge commitment of time and effort, I certainly understand why you wouldn't be interested in that.

RE: Artist on BOARD
@kehaulani
That was insteresting, Kehaulani. The thing is, even back in the early years of my playing, I rubbed shoulders with other musicians who dabbled in painting. What is it about that connection of music and colors ? I'm not sure I can put my finger on it.

Insteresting as always, Wayne.
Quite a few years ago there was a half hour tv program on the Canadian Broadcasting (CBC) network showing the starring artist doing a painting from screatch, exactly how you are doing your youtube series. It was that show that got me started on doing watercolors and my wife on pastels. I think the time is ripe for that kind of tv show again. Maybe your local station would consider you doing one. It could see a whole new batch of artists enter the art scene in your little place in the world. And if it was syndicated, well who knows what....?George

RE: Any recent experience on resuming playing after CAGS?
Glad to hear you fellows are doing well. Hope this will be a better year and will see you both getting lots of trumpet playing.

RE: Best place(s) to sell Adams Flugelhorn
If you don't want the hassle of trying to sell it yourself, you may want to place it on consignment with someone like Trent Austin at Austin Custom Brass. He also just happens to be an Adams dealer, which may help a little. He will also have a good idea what the horn is worth in today's market. His link is below. Sorry you had al those problems.

RE: Howdy! I'm new to the forum.
Welcome aboard. I am an old timer ( 86 years ). I played with my own 5 piece band in the 1950's and 60's but gave up the trumpet in 1965 because the market for small bands like mine was being pushed aside for the cheaper 3 piece string bands. I had a successful career in printing and publishing. After my wife of 57 years passed away in 2012 of pancreatic cancer I gave some thought of getting back into music but didn't do anything definite until 2016. Since then I have been playing first trumpet with one of eastern Canada's top community brass and reed bands. It was hard coming back at the age of 79 but becauase I had a 12 year foundation to build on within 6 months I was playing first trumpet with the local Horizons band.
The trumpet is not an easy instrument to play well, but once you reach a competent level it is sure rewarding.

@trumpetb
I couldn't agree more. Excellent choice, sir.

RE: What's the recording in this scene?
Oh, man, certainly nothing relaxing about that situation. But what you had to do under pressure also says a lot about how good a player you are. My hat is off to you, sir.

RE: What's the recording in this scene?
Yes, Doc has stood beside many of the great ones of today. That says a lot for him and his playing abilities. I always enjoy any videos he posts of himself playing under interesting conditions. I like his sound and his style. But don't tell him I said so .

RE: What's the recording in this scene?
It was a nice piece of music but not familiar. Looked like a Capitol label. Merry Christmas.

Pentatonic style...show off !
Nice playing, Wayne.

RE: Trumpet playing Christmas marathon is over!
Seems like you did it all, kehaulani. That's a lot of great memories.
I can't play as well anymore either, but I have great memories of all the gigs I enjoyed with my 5 piece band during the 50's/60's.

RE: Trumpet playing Christmas marathon is over!
Yeah ! Well I had 3 Christmas concerts last week and 2 this week, playing for the 5 local nursing homes, but all were canceled due to Covid + outbreaks. Same happened last year. Pretty damn depressing.
Now not even any band practices until January sometime. But I continue to practice and play 7 days a week.George

Sort of like a referee's job. Half the spectators will throw kisses for your call, and the other half will throw rotten eggs. You never win. But I will always support whatever you decide, sir.

@kehaulani
Yeah, in most cases I would like to see how things play out, but none of the nasty stuff should be tolerated. -
RE: When they ask how you got the gig...
@dr-go said in When they ask how you got the gig...:
The most powerful message, also emphasized to me by my teacher Claudio Roditi:
Sing, that's the most important thing. The trumpet is more than an instrument, it is an extension of my voice, so I can explain myself through the instrument. Think about melody's.
I got the same message from my teacher, and that was 70 years ago. The fact is, I have always done a quick run-through singing the piece I am about to play in my head. I did it back then and I do it today.

Take requests? Do you know that old country love ballad, "If I Had To Do It All Over Again, I'd Do It All Over You?
Hah ! Oh, yeah , I know it well.
