@rowuk said [ If things get congested (tonguing, breathing, chops, brain), it is amazing how much a sip of water helps. ]

That is so true. I get up, sip some water, walk up and down the hall, then go back and face the music and things start working again.

AND I bet you can whistle better as well.

People always underestimate the healing power of water.

Torpedo Cases sells mouthpiece cases. I have a 4 piece pouch. It holds 2 Harrelson 5m mouthpieces with no problems.

I played a gig tonight (6:00 - 8:00) at a local pub here in town, as a prelude to the annual Oktoberfest... a simple adjustment to my embouchure!

O.K. then, "how many countries are being represented here on TrumpetBoards", thanks.

U.S. here, officially. But functionally, also Japan and Germany. Hope this gives this better focus.

By the way, I am often in the state of confusion!

...Recordings just cannot convey the physicality, the powerful acoustic resonance, of being in the room with the instruments, right up there near them....

I have a Hammond B3 with a Leslie Speaker only a keyboards distance away... gotta agree with you on that when I put the peddle to the metal!

AND with my Moog synthesizer at the right settings patched in through a high end bass amp I use connected to my keyboard system... it can actually clean out the sinuses!

@jolter said in WTB mouthpiece case:

The Torpedo 4-pack looks nice but impractical - I wouldn't see which MP is in which compartment which is a non-starter for me.

Look at the 4 pack picture closely. One button is silver the remainder are black. That is how you can locate the mouthpiece in the sequence in which you store them related to the one button color different from the other. Simple concept but it works.

In addition, my Torpedo 4 pack is now 10 years old and looks the same as the day I first received it. In other words it is real leather.

I personally don't paint by numbers. I use braille. Interesting thing is the finished version has a lot of texture to it.

      @barliman2001 said in >OLDS Recording...:

Ok, had a longish - four and a half hours - Big Band rehearsal (www.bbmf.de) yesterday evening. Had the Recording with me for the first time.
...A horn that can sing almost like a flugel, whisper, and strip paint at the slightest provocation in that direction. Just what I wanted... only one horn has ever done that to me, and that was another Balanced model - a 1950s Courtois.

I have that experience with my Harrelson Summit. It has a large bell so when playing with on open embouchure, a rich flugel like sound is generated. But add a focused blow directed right down into the throat it not only peals paint, but then reseals it into the next room!

My goal is to channel my inner Till Bronner!

No SERIOUSLY, playing EVERY DAY is not a goal, it's a passion. The horn connects me to my emotions. It's my daily therapy, and a hell of a lot cheaper than a psychologist (or psychiatrist) [No offense Dr. Mark]. Why would't someone want to be more in touch with their inner self? That is what trumpet playing brings to me... and to play in front of other's to share my joy and try to channel the audience... well then that is another level of pleasure.

So when I leave the office in the evening I tell my colleagues, "Will I'm heading home to blow my brains out..." and THAT'S a good thing!

@dale-proctor said in About Olds Ambassadors:

I don’t think you’ll find many (or any at all) professional players, past or present, using an Ambassador outside of the jazz/big band world. I used an Ambassador trumpet with good success in a big band for a few years, but it wasn’t acceptable for classical playing.

Dale, I absolutely agree with this. My comments above relate to the most types of playing I do which is small jazz ensembles. But when I play classical, my Recordings get that gig. Their sound is rich and they can really sing.

      Always remember and never forget:
Practice makes perfect, but nobody's perfect so why practice?

Answer: Because if you THINK you have reached perfect, you have let yourself down as then you settle to where you are. It is my theory that there is always as better place. So that when you reach your goal, it's time to set a new goal... so you get better... and better... and better...
