    • My journey starts here . . . .

. . . although I never was an accomplished player, more like a "Book 2" Essential Elements kinda guy. Did not see a "Beginner" section here. Anyway, after much flirtation with the saxophone and violin, I have finally made the choice to focus on one thing - the trumpet.
Flashback to roughly 8 years ago, I had a nice 6310Z that I had purchased as an "open box" item. Sold it for saxophone money and looking back, it probably wasn't the best choice for starting out. I did however find an old beat up Buescher "The 400" in a thrift store. Man, what a tank from '48.
This time, I'm doing things differently as I have an instructor. My first lesson was last Friday. Looking forward to the next one . . . .

I do hope to make a few friends here and learn some things along the way.![alt text](DSC00146.JPG image url)

Here's a gem. These cats can groove. I have the LP.

    • RE: Who want's to teach me a jazzy lick in C Major(ish)?

Thanks! Good stuff. So . . . . . . . after today's lesson, I'm back to focusing on forming the embouchure and angle of the horn. There was a kind of breakthrough today as I reached some unintentional high notes today. I may not be able to reach those notes on demand but they did feel "effortless".

    • Are you a fan of early 1900's music?

I am. And I just found an excellent online radio player. Click the link, check it out and let me know what you think!

    • RE: No real gains on anything more than 40-45 minutes of practice.

Good advice, thanks to all that have replied! I did play a little longer today with constant interruptions. My son wanted me to watch old school vs. new school muscle car 1/4 mile showdowns. He's gonna be a Ford guy, that's fine - put me on the list for a new Supra or Tesla.

. . . . anyway, I'm feeling more confident about the duet to be played on the 31st with my teacher. Just going from A(4)up to B is bit dicey yet.

    • RE: How many measures on a tank of air?

Play like a vocalist. Makes perfect sense.
Today, the exercises introduced dotted half notes so I figured the quarter rests were a good opportunity to refill.

    • RE: Favorite Cornet

As a beginner, this is my "favorite cornet". I suppose if I continue playing, there may possibly be others . ☺
I suppose the stuck mouth piece is a small shank but it plays.

      Digging this right now!

Any band with horns, strings, moog , and a sitar gets a serious listening.

Oh, Buddy singing 'Sunny' is super cool!
