@Bob-Pixley You've got a mightily respected reputation to maintain with your new name. 335b26c7-cf4d-43aa-84cc-dc956b2e027b-image.png

Yes, I suppose I do. I can't spend a lot of time here because of my obligations as substitute 3rd Trumpet in The Herrodsburg Volunteer Fire Department Brass Quintet, but I'll post when I can...

Love your videos! I've learned so much!

Well, I'll have to admit that I'm not the real Bob Pixley, I'm just using the name...

I used to be on TM, too, but under a different name. I'm incogneto here (for a while, at least)...😎

    • RE: Absence explained (mother passed away...)

Sorry to hear that, Butch. I lost my Mom in 2001 and my Dad in 2011, so I can empathize. Luckily, my two brothers, my sister, and I all get along fine and there were no problems settling the estate. Hope your sister does the right thing.

    • RE: Finally, I amd playing a Conn Trumpet again

I have 3 Conn trumpets. A 22B New York Symphony, a 22B Victor, and a 6B Victor. They are nice instruments, but I usually play an old Bach Strad.

    • RE: A great mix

I use 4 different books: Arban's (everyone needs this), the Brandt orchestral etudes (exercises, but with some musicality), the Clarke technical studies (harder exercises than Arban's and some challenging solos in the back), and the Schlossberg daily drills (flexibility and range).

    • RE: Eb Trumpet Question

I'm a little late with advice, but you need to practice on the Eb enough to ingrain the pitch/written music relationship in your head. Most of the tinny sound people produce on the Eb (and picc) is caused by unfamiliarity and excess tension. Just try to open up and relax in the lower register and remember that's the easy part of the range.

    • RE: Jens Lindemann about mouthpieces

After playing a 3C for years, I've recently discovered I can play pretty well on a Bach 1-1/2C, and I like my tone much better with it, too. My overall intonation is a little better with it, and soft attacks are easier and more secure. It's slightly more tiring to play than the 3C, but I can deal with that. Been using it for a couple months now and still like it for most playing, so I think I'm past the honeymoon phase.

    • RE: Check out this 1933 Selmer Balanced Model trumpet!

Those are cool trumpets. You just have to be careful with it until you get used to the ergonomics so you don't knock your teeth out with the mouthpiece...lol

    • RE: Favorite Cornet

I have a few old cornets piled in a corner of the spare bedroom. Sometimes I get them out of their cases and play them, but most all my playing gigs these days are for trumpet. I pulled one out last night and played through some of the solos (the sections I can play) in the back of one of the Clarke books. Cornets are fun to play!

I used to have one of those. I didn't think it was a very good cornet, but what that guy did was still blasphemy...

    • RE: Olds Pinto?

      @N1684T said in Olds Pinto?:

I agree, but believe our praising them for years has driven the prices up. With TM gone, will those rave reviews keep up?

TM was a repository of Ambassador lovers. Good, solid horns, but some of the glowing stuff people said about them was pure horse hockey. I used to own one and tried to play some "legit" music on it. Nope...
