When you get to the fork in the road, take it.

      Yogi Berra

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

      Also, Yogi

It ain’t over till it's over.

It’s like deja vu all over again.

Thank you for making this day necessary.

You don’t look so hot yourself.. ( told to John Lindsey’s wife at an awards ceremony for the Yankees at city hall )
He said that to her when she remarked how cool he appeared in spite of how hot it was that afternoon.

There are basically two types of people. People who accomplish things, and people who claim to have accomplished things. The first group is less crowded.

Well, here’s something you will either like or not.
I think it's true. Like Moby Dick.
I heard this story while visiting Boise, Idaho more than twenty years ago. Here’s what I heard: an inmate was released from the Idaho State penitentiary there in Boise Idaho. Arthur ( Something ) was his name, and he had done quite a number of years in the slammer. Having no employable skills, he tried to get some work, but when he struck out so many times he finally took a job to rub someone out. With no experience, all he could negotiate was one dollar for the job. He was informed that the victim did their grocery shopping on Tuesdays at the M&W market on Broadway. He made his plan to wait in the parking lot of the market. He would simply use his bare hands, since he had no funds to get a real weapon. The victim came to her car with a cart full of groceries, and Art made his move and put his hands on her throat and strangled the victim. He knew he would get his payday now. Just then another concerned citizen jumped in to try to rescue the woman but alas, he strangled him as well. Arthur was immediately apprehended by police who quickly arrived to the location.

The next day the headline on the crime section of the Idaho Statesman said: ARTIE CHOKES TWO FOR A DOLLAR AT M&W MARKET!

grune, sadly this is true. When I was a graduate student at Colorado State, I would sky often at Copper Mountain where there would be large groups of "tourists" coming up to sky our Rockies. I rode a lift with a College student from Texas hitting the slopes for the first time, and I was reassuring him how great the snow was in Colorado. He said, Oh, sure, not surprising since Colorado was right on the border to Canada.

      You mean, North Dakota?

I do... butt you gotta admit, this is a more southern exposure

Uh.......last I checked, Canada looks to be North and continues in that persuasion.
I actually have some friends in Canada. All work for Universities. Sasquatch is not involved in any of this.

      @BigDub Wasn’t Klink’s brother a famous conductor?

I think I remember that being the storyline.
The way he played Klink was brilliant, in my opinion. I understand that was the only way he agreed to do the part.

On the show, Hogan’s Heroes, Colonel Klink Would occasionally play the violin, much to the discomfort of those who happened to be in the same room.
He looked rather convincing, but if you looked closely, there weren’t even any strings on the instrument!

Interesting factoid - Werner Klemperer’s father was Otto Klemperer, the famous orchestral conductor.

Even more interesting - quite a number of the actors in that show were either of Jewish descent or had lost family and friends due to Nazi terror.

Yes, I was aware of that as well. John ( Johann ) Banner, Sgt. Schultz, a Jew, was born in Prussia, now Austria, I believe, saw what was happening and came to the US. Joined the US army and served in World War II. Became a prolific actor even while in a Austria and later in the States. Early in his American acting experiences he had to learn his lines phonetically because he did not yet speak English.
I think he has to be my favorite of all of them.

Just to be clear BigDub, I am giving you approval to play me in the next full length feature about me.😊

But that would be the exceptional situation where the actor would be able to surpass the playing skill of the person he was portraying........that would be like Wayne Bergeron playing me. just kidding. Calm yourself

I would think that, according to screen Guild policies, she is in an acting role in which she sings. I'm sure that she was being represented as an actress.

Douglas was, obviously, being represented by the Screen Actors Guild which, as has been shown, couldn't care less that a musician was being accurately portrayed.

I get it, sure, but do I like it, no. No one asked me, that is for sure.
One interesting thing about how far Hollywood will go to use their chosen actor no matter how qualified or not was for the movie about Lou Gehrig, The Pride Of The Yankees, where they had Gary Cooper picked for the role of Lou Gehrig. He could convincingly swing the bat, but the only problem was his swing was from the right side of the plate, and not left handed. I understand they went to all the trouble to film him swinging right handed and reversing everything in the entire stadium, bases were backwards, signs and advertisements were backwards- everything. Mirror image. Just so they could have their star Gary Cooper play Lou Gehrig!
Here’s another interesting part: Babe Ruth played himself.
They were smart enough to know no one would believe it if someone else played him?

How can you tell the conductor is looking at you?
I haven’t the slightest idea. I would have to glance in that direction to know the answer to that!

I have a question that someone Might have some insight on.
There are plenty of instances and occasions when a tv show or motion picture portrays a trumpet player, or any other instrument, for that matter.
Anyway, why is it that almost 100% of the time, the person doing the playing has no clue how to play.
Any idea how this came to be?

      Hollywood hubris.

And fear of reality. Why be truthful when you can Hollywood it up?

After all, there are plenty of true players out there, and a goodly number of them don’t have other work keeping them from being available.
Is it a union thing, maybe?
It’s hard to watch someone ineptly trying to fake playing an instrument, isn't it?

Speaking of stream....my original plan did not include any stream at all. It sort of developed after the initial lay in of color. Then I thought it needed a bit more, so off I went.
