@bigdub for some reason? She had money. Lots of. Even bought - yes, bought! - Carnegie Hall for a concert...

Yes, you could tell she had money. She mentions in the movie that her father would take away all his endowments if she ever gave up her music career, but she said, “of course, that would never happen” or something to that effect.
I think this is a lot like the story of the Emperor’s New Clothes. Non of the peons wanted to point out the obvious!

@bigdub The real Florence Foster Jenkins was so bad that they had to make the movie version a little less bad than real life to make the movie tolerable.

Yeah. I guess so. I agree. I loved the movie, though.
It was almost as though everyone was humoring her, for some reason.

Why, oh why, did I continue listening till the end?
      But yet, I did.
There was a movie some years back where Meryl Streep played her.
It was NOT a smash hit, but of course Meryl Streep was very convincing.
I thought it was hilarious. And very good. I tried to share the trailer from YouTube but it didn’t seem to work this time.
The movie is called Florence Foster Jenkins if you want to search for it.
Meryl is not a singer, but she still sounds a little too good for the real woman! LOL

Two friends were looking at a satellite image of Crater Lake National Park. One of them said a meteor made the lake.
The other one said, looking closer at the image, whew! That was close!
It barely missed the Headquarters and visitor center!

I can only laud Dutch hospitals... they have discarded the Central Kitchen idea and have installed a working kitchen, manned 24/7, for every ward... when I was down in a small-town hospital last year with severe septicaemia, the nurses on my ward found out that it was my birthday that day, so they persuaded the ward chef to prepare a special dinner for me... roast chicken fillets with a nice rich gravy, roast potatoes and vegetable skewers, with a crisp salad... and as a dessert, all the staff - eight people! - escorted an enormous ice cream creation with fresh fruit, and sang Happy Birthday for me... they really made me feel at home there. Thank you.
By comparison, the English hospital I fled from the week before served cold porridge for every breakfast, followed fifteen minutes later by cold tea and, another fifteen minutes later, some cold burnt toast...

At least there was some kind of a theme.
Incidentally, by the way, I am extremely easy to please when it comes to food, and I rarely complain. Somehow I still recognize great food as well.. makes no sense, right?

The patient in the hospital listened in as his roommate was asked by the crotchety nurse what he wanted for breakfast.
I'd like a glass of orange juice, and could you please just empty a used specimen cup and pour the orange juice in there? I want a little essence of that mixed in.
Then, also, could I have two fried eggs, leave them in the pan about 3 seconds per side, 4 at the most. And use crisco, not butter, or even motor oil would be fine. And two slices of bacon, rare, maybe even raw, if you can. Also, a cup of coffee, from a week ago would be great. I think that is all.
The crotchety nurse practically spits, “we can’t possibly make such a meal for one of our patients! Are you crazy?”

Not at all, nurse. That’s exactly what was served to me yesterday.

I don’t even think I have the words to describe how much joy that gave me to hear that. Great job all around.
I also wanted to comment that David Mason embarrassingly admitted he hadn’t even heard of the Beatles before doing that recording!
I have the music in one of my solo books and the book includes some background information about the artists who originally did the music.

    • RE: NOT a didgeridoo?!

I got to play an Alpenhorn ( I thought they were called Alphorns, but maybe that is true also ).
A man from Westfield , NJ who had a little music school had one. I also was very fortunate to have the use of his little place to have an art show there. He gave me a demonstration out in the street. It’s not a great indoor instrument……the buildings supplied some great acoustics. He let me blow a little on it. He jokingly claimed it devoured trumpet players. He was right, it took some kind of chops to keep going on it.
He was a fantastic player and did the “Ricola” commercial Alphorn part.

Perhaps in a serious mood, playing some soft ballad, he just may be a decent player.

Pretty sure that’s not happening. He is no longer with us

At any rate it is clear Jerry Lewis has some ability. If he wasn’t trying to be so goofy he could probably produce a fairly decent sound.

    • RE: Outstanding performance!

Looks like he was still playing the Getzen Eterna at that time.
I guess there is room for improvement. For me, that is, seeing I play the same horn. That’s probably where the similarities end.
Maybe our ancestry is also similar…….so, there’s that.

Ok, since it has been some time now since I have indulged you with any new things, here is one I a, currently wrapping up. It is for my nephew who wanted to give something to a friend who treated him to a week of skiing at Big Sky Montana. This is the mountain here. Lots of detail and a nice challenge.A296A9D9-4F6A-4ED2-9D17-D4A68BA7B2C9.jpeg

They have been having a little bear trouble in Idaho's National forest lately. Warnings were issued, posters were distributed saying:

BE EXTRA CAUTIOUS WHILE HIKING IN THE FOREST. WEAR BELLS AND CARRY PEPPER SPRAY FOR PROTECTION. MAKE NOISE. IF THEY CAN AVOID YOU WITHOUT BEING SURPRISED THEY MOST LIKELY WILL LEAVE YOU ALONE. BLACK BEAR SKAT (feces ) IS SMALL, DARK, AND ROUND. IT MAY CONTAIN BERRY SEEDS OR SQUIRREL FUR.
GRIZZLY BEAR SKAT MAY CONTAIN BELLS AND SMELL LIKE PEPPER SPRAY.
